why did viz change the cover styles and sizes of some of their manga? i mean, what was the point? sorry i'm new here...so if this has been discussed before i apologize...

Simple: so they could do manga volumes at a price competitive with Tokyopop.

And I prefer it this way because I don't I have to spend sooooo much money on Ranma 1/2 and X/1999.

i know...but now all my ranma volumes are the same now except for the newest ones...its a minor thing...but i liked the old ranma covers...but the smaller the better i guess...

Ah, I know it's a minor thing, but it slightly miffs me anyway. The different sizes just stick out on my shelf. Well, it's not like I'm going to pay more money to fix it, so oh well. Constant reminder that Viz grates my nerves a bit. -_-;
But hey, it is cheaper, so that's something. |

I am definately all for the prices being lower and all...(i kinda just stopped buying viz for a while because tokyopops prices were much more reasonable.) But I am kinda irritated about the size difference! Now my dbz collection doesnt match! I wanted them all to be the same size but they stopped making them in the big form!!!!
....but what i really dont get is why they kept fushigi yuugi the same size and still lowered the price down to 10 dollars...(its a good thing!) and yet the other series were made into midget size! and what is even more confusing is that they made the comics from shonen jump like 8 bucks or something (thats a great thing too!) argh! darn viz is just confusing me!

They started doing it long ago because it was believed the normal japanese format wouldn't sell. For some manga, like ranma, it took them almost 13 years to change. That is right 13 year they have been translating Ranma and are still only 2/3 done. It might be a while for them to finish.
