I would very much enjoy a bag of potato chips signed by Tetsuro Araki.

MAKE IT HAPPEN GUYS!

the video thing seems a bit much...

Depending on how my personalized video from Stephanie turns out (can she deliver the line with a straight face?), I may well end up with a fairly amusing troll to show to all my friends...

Seems potentially worth the money to me.

(I got the poster... would have gotten season 2 of K-On, had the BDs been offered... and I already owned the movie, so that was out too)

It'd be kinda like that one time I showed up at Norcal Regionals with a piggy bank and had Daigo and Justing Wong sign it...

They had absolutely no idea what the hell was going on and this was amusing to me.

(that piggy bank eventually went on to be used to troll a Safeway in the middle of the night)

Great tournament, great experience.

Kind of expensive and limited items, but a cool idea nonetheless.

Really? I thought the prices where really reasonable, I was expecting them to be a lot more. I'm not a huge Stephanie fan, but I would have done this if I didn't already own everything I would be interested in owning.

I must say that I did think it was strange that they had the Lucky Star OVA sense it was a sub only release, but um whatever.

I honestly did not know she voiced Julia Chang. How embarrassing for me. Evil or Very Mad

While I too would prefer to see the guest in person for the reasons penguintruth explained, this venue for autographs sure doesn't hurt to have, especially for guests from Japan that I may never see otherwise.

While I would primarily want Japanese creators and artists' autographs through this venue, I can see myself caving for certain North American VAs who you just don't see at cons much anymore.

As others have mentioned I definitely prefer the standing in line in-person autograph experience.

However if it was for the right person and something really nice was being signed (something they worked on, not a photograph) I would definitely consider.

And I personally only care about the Japanese side of things.

Neat idea. I would feel comfortable spending $15-20 more on a product than normal cost. Would I pay more? Now that I think about it maybe I would cause wouldn't that also be directly supporting the person signing it?

Anyway I would only pay for an additional autograph on products I was planning to buy anyway. This wouldn't sway me to buy something I was on the fence about.

Chiwa Saito/Horie Yui, please sign my Nekomonogatari if/when it gets licensed ;o?

Like a lot of folk, I'm only really interested in Japanese artists. I don't tend to watch English dubs, and some English voice actors even make it over to cons on this little island, so I could get stuff signed by them. It's extremely rare that a Japanese guest will come over here, especially a mangaka, who I'm most interested in. Having said that, I added Masakazu Morita to the poll as I couldn't choose which mangaka I wanted most...

Over the years, I've lost interest in collecting autographs. Now, for an autograph to be of interest to me, there either has to be actual historical interest (e.g., a note by Alan Turing), or it has to represent some sort of personal contact. And my threshold for personal contact has been lifting. Having a drink and a chat with an author still qualifies. Standing in line for an autograph is beginning not to qualify. Mail order for a personalized autograph doesn't qualify. Having an author be a personal friend who spontaneously mails me a volume with a note will probably always qualify, although it hasn't actually happened yet.

I hadn't previously thought about how this would work for anime. Qualifying personal contact with the Japanese cast and staff probably won't happen. Autographs from American localizers don't interest me, unless I get to know them fairly well. (For example, I do have an autograph from a translator for one of the Crest of Stars books, because we were briefly both at the same university some years before.)

This is certainly an interesting idea. Meeting the guests at conventions has always been my favorite part, but I haven't been able to go to any cons for a while now, and the guests that appear at the cons in my area tend to be the same, so having something like this is definitely interesting.

The cost isn't a major issue, at least at these current prices since I recognize that there are extra things besides the base cost of the product to consider: shipping, the time it takes to record the messages, the added value of a collector's item, etc. And I like having the English VAs for this since I prefer dubs, so those are the voices I've come to know, but I don't have a lot of opportunity to have any sort of contact with the vast majority of them.

So what about sending the item you want autographed to the guest? It should work as well.

I'd like Nana Mizuki (Fate), Ueda Kana (Hayate) and Yukari Tamura (Nanoha)'s autograph as well.

This is one very interesting idea, and one that I would like to see developed more. I'm really into collecting autographs so this is right up my alley. The one thing I would love to see though is Japanese guests over English dub guests. For obvious reasons, of course, the Japanese guests are a lot harder to get and meet.

I wish there was a "come to my town/city, (city name)" option for the poll.

Was hoping there'd be some FLCL stuff for Stephanie to sign.

This is something I don't think the poll has addressed. I know artists usually do these kinds of things to promote their current project, but that's not always what drew fans to them in the first place. Particularly with the voice actors, what they are currently doing may not interest people in the least.

When I go to get an autograph I sometimes make a collage of the artist's/actor's characters, and get pro-looking print of it. Then when they sign it, it's like I've got their autograph for their body of work rather than a specific DVD or manga. Perhaps ANN could offer something similar (as a poster or something) as something that people could get signed?

That's a cool idea. I'll see if we can do it in the future.

This is a great idea, and the video makes it even better.

They should get Laura Bailey, Steve Blum, Chris Sabat, Wendee Lee, Lisa Ortiz, Rachael Lillis, Crispin Freeman, Kari Wahlgren, and Dan Green to do this in the future! Very Happy I will also gladly pay $50 for Lauren Landa's John Hancock...

I have Mike Pollock (the voice of Dr. Eggman)'s autograph. He offers them on his website for free: http://www.itsamike.com/phautograph
He's really great with his fans. He will even chat with you on Skype for 30 minutes if you ask, and will also record dialogue for fan productions, as long as the word count is under 50, and the production doesn't have any copyrighted characters.

I've never been to an anime convention (but I'd like to), so I've never had the "waiting in line" experience, but I still think it's cool to get a celebrity's autograph either way.
