So you are asking why do guys in anime have roles that portrays them as weaklings (making them act like girls by making them more emotional)...if so then I would say (according to this thread) it is because they seem to like them to be more feminate because it makes them seem more trust worthy and better with kids. Read the thread I linked to since the explain the details behind this. |

I totally agree with you. thank that answer my question. If you haven't notice there more male in manga/anime then female, also the creators of the manga/anime are most male. |

And the answer to "Why are male characters in shounen romance so weak?" is fairly simple. These kinds of shows are targeted at otaku/fans in Japan who are even worse at relating to real-life women than some of the fans elsewhere. So, the characters are designed to let the audience identify with them and thus feel better about themselves. ("If this could happen to that guy, it could happen to me, too!") So if these male leads were suave, debonair, and inelligent about women and dating, there wouldn't be much of a show. |

Not only that but it's also more appealing to the female fan base as well. Those shows are geared for fans who want something sweet and those kind of male characters are sweet and and endearing to the ladies. Look at all the fangirls at any con for shows like Fruits Basket. |

Like Daemonblue & Zalis116, I'll also experiment with different series, though I will give pretty much ANY series a chance.
& as a guy, I also immensely enjoy romance series, shonen/seinen-oriented & shojo/josei oriented. At first, any exposure to the romance genre was usually found in romantic comedies, particularly Love Hina. The transition towards romance began when I started watching Please Teacher!. While the comedy was the more prominent feature of the series, there was definitely a stronger romantic aspect that the series contained. I realized that it was definitely more prominent in OneTei than in other romantic comedies like Love Hina or Tenchi Muyo! GXP, which were much more comedy-driven. My interest in observing the relationships of the characters continued to grow, and it wasn't just Kei & Mizuho's relationship. As a result, the series continues to be my 3rd-favourite anime title. However, my interest in the romance genre really began when I started to watch Shuffle!. Initially, I started watching it because it seemed like a fun little romantic comedy that I would probably enjoy. & while I eventually did end up enjoying the series immensely, the comedy was only a small factor to my overall enjoyment of the series. Yup, it was the romantic and dramatic elements of the series, which began at the beginning of Episode 12, where the nature of the series dramatically changed, from a romantic comedy to a romantic drama. While Shuffle! contained more drama than romance at that point, the romantic qualities made the drama more effective, especially during the spoiler[Asa episodes]. Watching Shuffle! pretty much sealed the deal... ...but it was Paradise Kiss that assured me that I was genuinely enjoying romance anime. Up until that point, anything that had romance in it moreso appealed to a male audience, except Sailor Moon & Magic Knight Rayearth. ParaKiss was my first shojo series that I watched after anime became a real hobby of mine, and I simply fell in love with it. Yukari & Johji's relationship really intrigued me, and the series' setting really wowed me. ParaKiss assured me that I genuinely enjoyed romances, regardless of the target audience, and it's my favourite series targeted to females as a result. I might not be proud enough to admit it to all of my friends just yet, though.
You're not alone. I also watched it, and I really enjoyed it. I loved the slice-of-life feel to it, and even though there were alot of girls in the series, it was clearly obvious who Kenji was going to end up with.
Funny you should mention that, since spoiler[Hibiki is in fact a guy. ] psycho 101: Yeah, that's from Strawberry Eggs, which I found to be pretty entertaining in my book. |
