Is Shinkai a JoJo reference?

Holy shit, Shinkai is amazing.
I can understand why he doesn't or rather spoiler[fears of passing anyone on the left. Then yet again, he's got his buddies from this team to support him based on that flashback.] Great episode with a big cliffhanger. I hope Shinkai wins tbh. Had just enough about that psycho known as Midousuji Akira. |

spoiler[Damn, things are looking grim for Sohoku. Other teams are in much better positions. Hayato vs Midousuji spring battle was intense. That M-weirdo is so annoying... Well, at least we got more info abut Hayato's fears. I'm glad he got over them and beasted out! Midousuji deserved to be put in his place. Can't wait to see who won next time!] |

So, I just watched episodes 32, 33, 34, and 35 all at once on my bike (it was raining outside and I haven't gone for a proper ride in days...). So sweat, much tired.
I noticed a couple translation errors. First, Midosuji is calling his teammates ZAKUs, not "small fry" (zako). He's an otaku. It's a pun because they sound similar, but he's referring to the mobile suits. Second, Shinkai didn't ask if he could quit the club, he asked if he could decline the position on the Inter-High team. Third, Arakita didn't call Midosuji a fraud, he called Braces Kid a "knockoff Midosuji wannabee" (notice how similar they look and act?). Fourth, pushing is allowed, but only a short push to get a rider started. The referee essentially said that pushing more than is reasonable is against the rules. A minor gripe, the proper term they should be using is "pull," not "draft." The people behind the guy in front are the ones who are drafting, not the guy in front, who is "pulling" them along. Naruko said "save your legs" (which is something cyclists would say in English) not "save your energy." |

spoiler[Hayato-Midousuji race was insanely intense! I'm glad it's finally over. Midousuji totally pulled a fast one on Hayato. I really felt sorry for his loss.. Sohoku is pretty behind so far. It's not looking good, but there is still hope! At least the team is whole again. Now all they need to do is make up for lost km. Onoda got a whole bunch of well deserved praise. Great episode full of hope for what's ahead.] |

Damn, spoiler[Hakone is falling apart now after that loss in round 2]. I hope they can pull it together.
I'm glad that spoiler[Sakamachi is able to catch up with the others after falling behind. Everyone needs some energy with that Hime song!] |

I wonder what Frank and Andy's reward is...or maybe it's best not to think too much about that. >.>

Episode 36
How does the villain manage to do crazy things including physical handicaps that could cause loss of circulation and muscle cramps, as well as recklessly sprint the end of one race and the beginning of the next. Especially with what's his name ending up hurt from pushing himself too much one time. |

Because he's carrying a heavier burden! Just you wait - they're going to use that line to try to redeem him when we learn his tragic backstory.
omg, are Andy and Frank named after Andy and Frank Schleck?? |

I was soooo pissed off to see spoiler[ the way he won that sprint. There's just no way in hell that would actually work. He would have to get the timing down to the millisecond because if he stopped pedaling like that the other guy would leave him behind.]
Yes, his pecs are probably named after the Schlecks. |

spoiler[Someone really needs to slap Midousuji silly. That guy is just so incredibly obnoxious.. His psycho games actually worked. He's so devious it's just incredible. Things are not looking good for Hakone.. Battle of the nerves has never been stronger on both sides! Great and intense episode.] |

Episode 37
He says he does spoiler[not need dead weight and moves away from his team, and then at the end he says there is no dead weight and the rest of the team is catching up]. Sorry but it is incredibly stupid, like if the spoiler[rest of the team was catching up anyway shouldn't they have stayed together], or at least let spoiler[the climber take the checkpoint]? The show totally pulled that bit out of its ass just to make a shocking scene, like have so much about spoiler[psychological warfare ruining their spirits and make them fall apart and then going "nope".] I won't say it even counts as a twist, as it feels more like contradicting itself. |

I really really hope Hakone pulls a victory tbh. That would knock Midousuji's team off their high horse as well as their championship streak.

I get it that Midousuji is supposed to be evil, but judging from my (admittedly rather limited) viewing experience, his tactics are closest to how real road racing actually works. There might be specialists like sprinters and climbers who get their own time in the spotlight, but in the end it's the team's job to support the ace and it's only natural that members who are unable to do their job anymore for whatever reason would be 'abandoned'.
But that's probably not an uplifting enough message for a shounen series where friendship is supposed to be magic, i guess... |
