Isn't that just a bit ironic, considering the original source material? |
The thing is when we first checked it out on On Demand I didn't know it's source. My gf just thought it was cute so I went and got info on the show after we saw it. Kinda ironic in the end.

Yes they would. The meat eaters with loli com would have devoured every one on sight and would have eventually died themselves from gluttony.

I had actually been seriously contemplating picking up the Slayers Remastered re-releases, until I read the reviews on them.
1) As noted by others, the Funimation re-mastered editions are in mono sound. No stereo fun for you.
2) Some of the endings / previews are missing (dub version).
3) The final 15 seconds of the last episode are missing.
4) The images are cleaner and sharper, but a lot of details have been lost due to the filters used in the image cleaning.
So, what Funi did was not to get the original masters from Japan; they got the original CPM release, which featured the EXACT SAME problems listed above, and ran it through a few video filters to sharpen the image... very similar to what they did with the "DBZ Remastered" a while back.
Very disappointing. I was hoping to be able to finally ditch my re-mastered (heh) CPM release, with its stereo audio and restored final episode. Oh well.
(EDIT: Fixed some points for accuracy... It is morning, and I am sleepy, and I need moar coffee~)

No, because even in the original eroge you can completely skip the sex scene (there's only one btw) and still get the best ending, the sex was not integral to the story at all.
Also FWIW, for Minagi if you choose to sleep with her, you actually get the bad ending and miss out on the entire chunk of the story. The good ending requires you to *reject* her approach.
Yeah, stereotyping AIR as the typical "play the cards right to sleep with all the girls" type eroge is very fitting isn't it?

Not kidding about any of it... and yes, CPM fixed it in their re-release.
Apparently, if you switch to the subtitle / Japanese audio track, the last 15 seconds of the final episode reappear, as do some of the next ep. previews. Still, though. Grevious error on the part of Funimation, IMO.

I never said Air was a typical anything. I know it isn't. I was merely being flippant. (Note the winky face.)
Key eroge ARE different. That doesn't change the fact they're still eroge.

Happy birthday!
And as far as visual novel games go (one's that aren't pornographic in any way), we need an Ever 17 anime ASAP. KID going bankrupt made me a sad ninny. [/random-ish]
I've always wanted to see Slayers, so I may look into picking up that boxset. I'm a fan of mid 90s action/adventure type anime. (Burn Up W/Excess and Those Who Hunt Elves being some of my favorite anime). I'm assuming Slayers will be along the lines of something like that. If I'm assuming wrong, please inform me =)

Wait a freaking second! It's your birthday today? And mine's in 3 days on the 15th? Cool.
@ psycho 101: Personally, I'd say you should be thankful for the girlfriend and who cares what odd things she says in bed. (As long as it's not someone else's name.) Speaking as a single person with zero experience of this nature, I'm insanely jealous and would gladly accept any number of such oddities as saying "gao" in bed.
Soon to be 25 and dateless all my life. I'm starting to feel like a younger male version of Namiko-sensei from Kashimashi!
And people do seem to be in a bit of a mood lately Neverwhere, at least in response to your posts. (Noticed the lolicon debate! Commented too. Me like pain.)
To counterbalance this, I shall give you a post hug!

May I just say it's a very odd experience to read a thread on Air, then immediately switch over to a tab where GAO is being used as an abbreviation for the General Accounting Office.
That is all.

Now that's one pricey DVD. I guess if you got the regular copy you were in good shape. I feel sorry that I never had the chance to see 'Honneamise'. I saw it years ago but my immature brain never quite grasped it. But I would make sure years later that my job's collection would have it in their collection. So I can always check it out. Think I'll grab it right now before I head home.
I saw that price yesterday, and I thought it was an import. So you get BR/HD versions with an extra regular version. I mean I really don't care about this BR/HD crap. Just give me the DVDs. Chances are I'll be dead before I really care. One reason why I'm not rebuying the same DVDs unless there's a good reason for it. Total AV geeks.
As for 'Bandai Visual USA', let's see how many versions of this they get sold. Sure folks are really going to just rush to retailers to spend almost $80 for DVD. I hope 'Bandai Visual USA' learns from this.
Call me when they finally release 'Re: Cutie Honey'.
Forgive me for ranting away from the review.
Oh, the bleating goat from 'Lost Exile' is sooooo cute.

I wasn't quoting you, the sentence I put in quote is the quote which the ANN reviewer put in his review of AIR.
Despite it being a positive review, it is questionable enough that the reviewer tried to be clever and started his coverage with a broad stroke and painted the eroge scene with the steretypical "sex it up with as many girls as you can", which is completely false in the case of AIR, and it surely doesn't help when the discussions and comments similiar to yours kept pushing into that angle when a lot of people have not even played the game (and probably never will) and are just furthering the misconception of not only the game itself, but on an entire genre of the game, as well as works base on these games, from the review and the forum discussions.
Yeah AIR is an eroge, but an eroge is just a game with adult sexual content - no matter how much or how little of that sexual content actually makes up the game. So why not just call an eroge/adult game and be done with it, instead of trying to be clever/smart/contraversial and whatnot and ending up not only mislead people not in the know but also make a fool of yourself to those who do?

Her. I'm a female.
Quote: | Despite it being a positive review, it is questionable enough that the reviewer tried to be clever and started his coverage with a broad stroke and painted the eroge scene with the steretypical "sex it up with as many girls as you can", |
I don't think I was trying to be clever at all. I never said that the point of the game was to be able to sleep with as many girls as you can-- I just said that it was a possibility. At no point did I say, "The whole point of this game is to have sex with lots of girls!"
And, to be fair, the review is based on the anime series. I could have easily taken out that sentence, and it wouldn't have affected the review one bit. I have nothing against eroge, nor do I have any kind of hidden agenda. I think you're taking that sentence a little too seriously.
