Romance part of this film, as well as whole Naruto thing is bad, makes no sense, not believable (you can not fall back in love as a switch just because you finally understood some a person loves you); Kishimoto, apparently, just can not do it, it is not his thing.
Villain's reasoning for his is not "contrived" at all, since he is actually right that the humanity (be it ninja or otherwise) would always go to war, so its destruction is perfectly warranted. By the way, this is kind of a general theme with Naruto, where "villains" actually more right than "good" heros with almost all of their philosophies except for few that are purely egoistical like that of Orochimaru. |
