Did it need to be funnier? Was it even intended to be funny at all? And what anime is FLCL? |

It's actually rare to see someone whoseinto anime and completely unaware of FLCL considering it was one of the most popular anime in adult swims history, but I suppose it's been quite a long time since it aired now.
I highly recommend it, it might be a bit overrated at times but it's completely solid. and yeah, the south park homage in it was great. |

Yeah, that was amusing. All in all, I kind of felt like the final episode was a bit anti-climactic, but hopefully that just lets them roll it into a good second season.

The final episode was obviously crammed maybe because they had to revamp the whole episode since they casted the swiss skater Lambert(and that revamp cg insert of JJ cosplaying cartwheel)

That wouldn't really effect the pacing of the last episode. All they really would've had to do is send it back to the coloring crew and have them change those really quick. I'm sure that moment was already planned and in the episode, just with different colors. With the schedules that most of these productions run, and considering YOI was pushing it to the last second every week, it would be impossible for them to change anything major in the last couple of weeks like that. |

Actually Stephane Lambert just happens to be hanging around at that time because of the XOI collab event in Japan and MAPPA just decided to cast him, but he was not precasted and the recording took place during mid December, he also had an interview about it this month. The big spoof is that Southpark easter egg in JJ's part since YOI had somewhat made a lowkey cameo in Southpark's last episode and it was just aired sometime ago while YOI was already airing in Japan. If you noticed the crammed cut-scene during the last ep specially that certain part where Yuri and Victor was having a lovers spat(?) the pacing felt a little too off because there was this random cut. Also the timing during Lambert's commentating was a bit off, the animation didn't match with his recording.(wait unless it's conspiracy! It was all pre-planned from the beginning lol) Actually YOI has 2 versions the edited version which was airing in Japan and the licensed non-edited(funny animation) version that Funimation and CR was simulcasting...altho sometime ago Funi also licensed the edited version for the dub version... Mappa could still make some final adjustments so long as it doesnt exceed the current time of the original ep, or did they? |

I'm sure that they planned the segments with Stéphane Lambiel (is there a reason you keep writing Lambert or is it a weird autocorrect thing??) at least a little in advance: as you point out, there's a part where the mouth movement doesn't match his speaking, so I assumed it was animated in advance and then the voice recording was added last weekend when he was in Japan for the skating event (that's still crazy scheduling in my mind...). He was also in Japan in November as skater Deniss Vasiļjevs' coach at the Japanese Grand Prix event--maybe they made a connection with the creators there, or sometime after? I highly doubt he just walked into the recording studio last week for them to add that whole thing in on the spot.
As for there being "two versions" of the animation, yeah, it seemed like the studio was frequently running right up to the last minute, but for overseas streaming it was necessary to get the episode a little sooner than the Japanese TV broadcast required, so we got the less-finished version. I think it's commonly accepted that disc releases (both JP and EN) will have the animation even further cleaned up than either of the broadcast/streamed versions. |
