Back in the VHS and DVD era, hentai used to regularly get seized at the border crossing into Canada. However, since Canada doesn't restrict internet access in any way, as long as the hentai site in question isn't based in Canada, there's really not much the Canadian government can do about it.

I did not know about that since I live in Canada. I don't even know where to go if I wanted to buy hentai.

I'm pretty sure he's referencing digital stuff. I'm sure you could visit any hentai website(legal or not) just fine from within Canada.

Adult Source Media did quietly release the lolicon title Harumi's Bad Play without referring to the girl's age at all. Wonder if that one's allowed in Canada...

No.

All sorts of EU (or Japanese) comics with graphic teen sex scenes came out untouched in the US, as Blue is the Warmest Color (the comic is much better than the film) and i have seen nude teens in Avatar and Image comics, so it can´t be a legal formality. Enough examples of premium tv shows and film with adult actresses playing teens have nude scenes too, especially in the 80s, but Ice and Fire aged up all the kids when HBO turned it into GoT. A wise decision, i´ll tell you that much.

I wonder if Debbie Does Dallas would now need to be a college girl, if the porn industry remade it... again.
I am also fairly certain that Michael Corleone´s teen bride in The Godfather was 17 when she filmed her topless scene and American Beauty sits in the same boat. Both won Oscars galore.

I think it depends on the context. An artistic/literary defense for teen nude/sex scenes in things like A Girl on the Shore and Blue is the Warmest Color keep them from violating obscenity laws (at least in the US).

A hentai with underage characters is much more likely to be accused of violating obscenity laws, as it is a pornographic work presenting underage characters with the intention of making them sexually desirable to the audience.

A popular form of censoring that I have noticed over the years is in non-localized hentai where they write the age as "1X". Which in my mind implies the character can be anywhere between 10 and 19.I'm actually all for age obfuscation in hentai as it might help some viewers cope with the youthful appearances of the characters participating in the act... Okay that's a lie, I just find it funny that it's all you need to allow ecchi stuff to be allowed in the market place.

One of the more paradoxical uses of age obfuscation was in the Atelier games in which characters like Totori were bumped up from age 13 to age 14 or bumping up Rorona's age 14 to 17. By the time, they got to the third game in story, they just kept the ages of the characters in line with the Japanese versions of the games. Long story short, the changes made to these games confused me because they didn't serve much of a purpose.

Didn't expected this one being mentioned in here lol

I remember playing it in The Asenheim Project a long time ago.

Well, this game was my first encounter with this "legal age optimalisation" phenomenon, one couldn't easily forget it Anime smile. (Yes, it was probably first eroge i played, still got original CD (and JAST USA Memorial collection) ~_^).

This remind me of a quote from Gravity Falls.

"Oh, hi there! My name is Giffany. I'm a schoolgirl at School University."

Granted, it was a dating sim and not a hentai, but it's still a very similar idea that a girl in a sailor uniform is saying that you know the game was changed... yeah... You know what kind of scenes are in that game.

And remember Gravity Falls was a kids show... one with an adult fanbase... but still...

Gravity Falls gets away with a LOT of humor the typical Disney Anime hyper viewer wouldn't understand. It's weird that animated programming on Disney gets way more lenient standards than the live-action stuff (out of proportion with any other network's programming). "Soos and the Real Girl" is still one of my favorite episodes of the series because it was written by someone who knew dating sim tropes surprisingly well.

While not hentai, all of a sudden, the thread has me remembering the "Not safe for TV" bonus last episode of Excel Saga, where after the running joke of the cute 8-yo. Sara, whom Gojo shows a comically, um, unhealthy interest in, she suddenly spoiler[reveals herself to have been an undersized, stacked eighteen-year-old all along. And Gojo, of course, traumatically loses interest.]

Sounds like the opposite of Zakuro from Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan. I suppose since you put it in a spoiler tag, I'll put it in some too, though it's not a spoiler in the series itself: If I recall correctly, spoiler[Zakuro is 8 years old but looks like a fully grown young woman, and she was deliberately put in by the writers to mess with the whole underage fetishization common in Japanese media. That is, a male viewer with normal sexual attraction to adult women is supposed to find Zakuro attractive, but she's actually elementary school age.] It wound up being an interesting thought experiment, at least in my opinion.

Adults playing high school kids to get around sexualizing minors has always been a thing in American media. Aging up as well, such as Juliet originally being 13 in Shakespere's original play. I view it as more of a cop out than risque, however.

More posts are gone. I already asked everyone once to ignore obvious bait posts and simply report them. Next time a mod has to come in the thread will simply be locked. As for you Exalted Incarnate I specifically said drop the bait style soap boxing and move on. You ignored that and proceeded to stir the pot a 2nd time. If you try it a third time you will be placed on moderation.
