I'm a bit worried that most of the top shows are so bloody. Except for Haruhi, of course. Is it that only shounen fans are answering, or is this general consesus?

Blood? I dunno what you're seeing, but all I'm seeing is a whole lot of red paint on paper. =/ |

Bloody? Umineko, but if you check around, I think you'll find that one isn't at the top of many people's lists. Canaan? I don't know, I haven't seen it. Tokyo Magnitude is mostly just implied death. Bakemonogatari might seem a little bloody from the opening mash-up and Hitagi's assault on Koyomi's mouth, but that's over pretty quick and isn't that much, either. What else was mentioned? Cross Game. Yeah, not bloody. ZSZS. Occasionally, but more weird than anything else. |

Agree with Mark; Cross Game is excellent, although I'd probably consider it a spring anime over summer, since that's when it started. It's already on my top 10 of most wanted licenses. It has the best characters and a very difficult (emotionally) love triangle. This is the only current anime I'm watching; nothing else has managed to hold my interest.

Best deal I've found? The VOTOMS DVD collection, new, with the awesome tin AT ammo box-styled case -- for $30 shipped. This was only a few months ago, and now that CPM is gone, the box is becoming very hard to come by. Most sites have it listed as OOP with prices listing at $105-$140.
So yeah, I feel lucky to have gotten it when I did, for the price I did. Thanks, random company in Quebec! |

I found myself having an extremely hard time maintaining the slightest interest in episode one of Canaan. Plenty of shooting, people dying in bizarre manners, but why should I give a damn about this Canaan woman? What has she done to set herself apart from the bad guys? The people in Magnitude seem to be accepting the disaster in an apathetic and unrealistic manner. It feels like the makers of the show are afraid to depict just how horrifying an earthquake really could be, perhaps for fear of aggravating the government or setting off a general panic. Umineko, on the other hand, seems interesting. The characters seem like general jerks, which is unusual, and I wonder how they will deal with having been sold up the supernatural river by Grandpa. However, call me crazy, but my favorite summer series is Taishou Baseball Girls. The goofy attitude, underdog spirit of the girls, obstacles of 1920's social norms, everything keeps me interested. Speaking of Baseball, I'm also thoroughly enjoying the Spring-Summer series Cross Game. Seldom does any series hold my interest as reliably as this one.

I take it you haven't been called a Satanist because of your hobbies before, Fantasy fans and Authors have faced that kind of labeling. From Terry Pratchett's New York Times Bestselling books kept separate (and in the back of the store) from other NYT Bestsellers as well. Linking into DnD, fantasy still gets a bad rep, starting from info found here http://www.theescapist.com/basic_gaming_faq.htm#reputation |

Hadn't heard about this one, so thanks for the heads up. Going to go give it a try now. |

Nice Drizzt references. Lots of nerds watch anime eh?
Someone mentioned Desire Complex. I thought it was called Desire Climax (not that it makes a big difference). Just want to say not to be a hater- that was a good manga! It had enough going for it to hold my interest- but I agree that the author loaded it with some *heavy* plot- twists. Put some spoiler stuff around your statements. Also, there is no incest in that manga, that is misrepresenting it. However, you must not have minded much since you finished it! >.> Also, sorry, I doubt there is much incest anime. I haven't seen any- it seems like it would naturally be something more along the lines of porn... One more thing, there needs to be more TASTEFUL sex scenes in anime (there is enough porn online already it doesn't need to go overboard- sigh). I feel like I'm old enough to watch characters actually show their love instead of the creaters just implying it. Man, there are SOOO many instances where two characters were perfect for each other and nothing happens. The worst is when they are too afraid to even kiss till the last episode- so annoying. |

You know if they actually had more real sexul material in shonen shows they might just turn out as more then cookie cutter harems. Now the sex and sexual scenes would have to be tasteful and not just hentai material. While it was not in the anime a perfect example would be how spoiler[Kaoru and AOi got together in the last volume in Ai Yori Aoshi.] It added another layer to their relationship and was a nice culmination of their feelings through out the entire series. Plus it was done very tastefully. If the creators took that kind of approach I think it could work well for certain titles. Of course that will never happen though.

I would also like to add how they handled the scenes from Rumbling Hearts. Yes there was nudity, but it was done in a way to show relationships coming together because of affections that they had for each other. |
