Phew! Thank the Lord that FUNi is treating viewers like adults and not kids (4kids)
If anybody was saying that they wouldn't buy the DVD's because of editing have no excuses now.
Bottom Line, Ya snooze, Ya Lose! (until the DVD's come out)

That seems rather unlikely, as there was no Blu-Ray release for the series in Japan.

I think we are seeing to totally different series. What I watched had no child porn in it, and was no different than watching other anime with boobs.

This DVD is not going to sell. Why? Because of the general dub hating, stick it to the American licensor, screw you for trying to get money for this product attitude of the fans that gravitate toward this type of show.
And before anyone says way to generalize that was the point. Sales figures show it everytime. Put your money where your mouth is "otaku show" fans. This looks like it's going to be Haruhi all over again. Luckily Funimation isn't going to put out a $50 LE set for each volume so they'll actually make some money back.

That doesn't make any sense. Sales are going to be bad because there's a dub? I can't really say that this title will sell well, but I don't exactly see a correlation between bad sales and the prescence of a dub if the DVD is bilingual--That's like saying sales will go up for a show if it's sub-only. If a "dub hater" was a fan of the show, they'd just buy the title and stick to the Japanese language, don't you think?
Or are you talking about fansub users?

Strike Witches was quite popular in Japan and it definitely has an English-speaking following online. Sure, there are people who complain noisily about this that and the other thing - including dubs - but they're not necessarily the majority. Funimation obviously expects this show to sell or they wouldn't have licensed it. We won't know how well it sells until they actually release, and to some extent, we won't even know then because they don't release sales figures. It's far too earlier to claim that it will or won't sell due to a particular set of noisy fans and their particular tastes.
In any case, I think that it's best to keep in mind that just because there are people online who complain noisily about something does not mean that the majority of people who might or do buy a show agree. Also, if a show gets licensed, obviously the company licensing it expects it to sell, and they're likely to be in a better position to judge such things than us - especially if they're a company like Funimation who has shown that they know what they're doing well enough to do quite well in a poor economy like the current one.

English language tracks are bad for sales? I'm sorry, where do you live, Norway?

I think it was in the discussion about Funi streaming the uncensored episodes that some people mentioned a few shows that never got a BD release in Japan got one here (in response to me saying that I hope for a BD release). Samurai 7 comes to mind, others may have been mentioned.

You and me both, Panda Man. Unless bathing and other non-sexual situations are considered pornography now, or the cast of Strike Witches is suddenly 'real' and more like 'children' than all the other shows that come out of Japan with fan-service featuring girls under 18.

Honestly, I figured this was just part of the package deal Funi has with Gonzo. They get the good and bad, a mixed bag. But maybe they'd have licensed it anyway. Regardless, I am very much pleased that this was licensed and is getting an unedited release (but then, this isn't the earlier days were edits were commonplace). I am still hoping for a BD release, and if Funi makes a LE with some cool extras (I'm a sucker for artbooks...wink, wink) I'll probably buy my first ever LE.

Well I have no issue with them making the streams censored. The streams are after all widely available to anyone with an internet connection: including young, old, and nudity averse. Not everyone will know what they are getting into, when they or their kid looks at some promo pictures of little girls and thinks it looks great.
And seriously if you need the nudity that badly, there are plenty of other places to go for it.
EDIT: Speaking of Funi Blu disks, they are releasing Samurai Champloo as well, which I am fairly sure has never been released as such in Japan. And in fact I see a brand new listing for Heroic Age on Blu-ray which is the same. So Strike Witches has a good chance.
Check out the blu-ray listing on rightstuf, Funi are putting out a good number these days.

I was talking about the "I don't want to pay for an english version I won't watch" group.

Then what the hell was the "dub-hating" part about?

Just like most of the other series Funimation has released on Blu-ray in America. So that's not a problem and it's just a matter of when Funimation feels like releasing the Blu-ray version and is ready to do so.
But yes Strike Witches uncensored= amazing

You're right that nudity is nothing new to anime, but that's not the issue here. If the characters weren't under the age of 18, then their nudity wouldn't be a problem.
