Actualy, I believe they do. I remember seeing a sign at tokyo tower that involved sailor moon and not smoking .....

Update after googling it:
I was thinking of
which is not a no-smoking sign. my bad. Rolling Eyes
But, I wouldn't be surprised if those are real signs.

That sounds probable. Do they have red ribbon week type stuff in Japan? (For those of you who might not know, red ribbon week is a week, generally in public schools, in which all the children are given red ribbons which have such witty sayings as "up with hope; down with dope" or "I'd rather eat a bug than do drugs" on them. It’s basically an anti-drug-smoking-and-alcohol week.)

Why does say "No Smorking"? Confused.

And well, since anime is obviously a really common and succesful thing in Japan, it shouldn't be surprising that someone would use it as a tool for their purposes (such as "No Smoking", or should I say, "No Smorking"?)

Go to the website watermarked in the pics. It'll explain everything.

I believe is is because there is no letter equivilent of the "L" in the Japanese language. I see this on a lot of pjapanese sites. Most commonly is Garrey fo Gallery.
