Oops. Does Britney know she's being presented as a character from a lolicon porn manga?

Isn't that concept what started her career in the first place?

It's ecchi, not porn.

The concept of a 25 year old man marrying a 12 year old girl can be very disturbing to the developed West, despite that the practice is still common in many countries.

What a great image for her kids to see. Nothing says really disturbing like seeing your dear old mother in a less than G rated magazine.

She started out semi normal and now look what she is doing.

Post this to 2ch, they'll hunt Murakami down for plagiarism. Very Happy

The article on Sankaku Complex provides an interesting context of this. Apparently it's a staged political protest of the anti-loli legislation in Tokyo: http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/08/27/britney-spears-loli-cosplay-against-loli-manga-censorship/ (site NSFW)

Also, I don't wanna go all Chris Crocker, but there's no need to pointlessly hate on Britney Spears.

We had a similar situation a month ago, when two Taipei city councilors accused illustrations of Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu novel being "erotic" -- by covering up Haruka's crotch area in order to insinuate nudity, the same way that Japanese politician did -- which had none. It all happened less than a month before Yūsaku Igarashi came to Taiwan to sign for his readers; fortunately Taiwanese people and media didn't have good memories. Cool

Don't get me wrong. I don't "hate" her, on the contrary I feel sorry for her as yet another casualty of the child celebrity meat grinder. I just didn't recognise her as "Britney Spears™"

This has no sense. Takashi Murakami is against lolicon. The Superflat movement criticizes this and other aspects of Japan

Holy hell... it is... That's kinda deviously brilliant. I love Murakami's stuff. Heck, I haven't liked Spears or Dunst in years and I love what they did with him. Though this one takes the cake. Nice social commentary on a very interesting government debate.

And really, the crux of it is that it's satire and not just wank material. Again, with no actual children involved, such images can be used to comment on such issues as adults having sex with children and the whole child bride tradition. And, yeah, in some parts of the world that tradition is still upheld.

Though really, anything could be wank material. Someone could get off to the Morton's Salt girl or Coppertone girl, does that mean we ban those images as child porn? Of course not.

But does he feel it should be outlawed or just that the images are wrong? There's a difference between outlawing imagery and being against it. Plus the artbook I have of his features some lolicon art by other artists.

His view on lolicon is really more complicated than that.

Quote:
""I wasn’t criticizing otaku with my work, but I was trying to capture a form of expression the way Picasso did with tribal art."

There are also some comments about how he isn't entirely critical of otaku/lolicon in the interview of him in Galbraith's "The Otaku Encyclopedia."

"Otaku culture is getting deeper and more meaningless, and I can't understand it at all anymore. But it is worth it to try to explain it to people. We should try to re-examine why this is happening

In that "interview" I've only found that. I don't have The Otaku Encyclopedia Sad

But he is the founder of the Superflat movement

Quote:
Superflat is used by Murakami to refer to various flattened forms in Japanese graphic art, animation, pop culture and fine arts, as well as the "shallow emptiness of Japanese consumer culture."A self-proclaimed art movement, it was a successful piece of niche marketing, a branded art phenomenon designed for Western audiences.

These works are an exploration of otaku sexuality through grotesque and/or distorted images

and this
Quote:
Murakami defines "Superflat" in broad terms, so the subject matter is very diverse. Often the works take a critical look at the consumerism and sexual fetishism that is prevalent in post-war Japanese culture. One target of this criticism is lolicon art, which is satirized
