Castle in the Sky is a beautiful anime. Possibly my favourite of Miyazaki's 'fantasy world, eco-warrior' anime. (I divide his works roughly into the 'mostly/completely real world slice of life' or his 'complete fantasy man vs. nature' anime, as they all seem to fit in one of these two categories.
Laputa is probably the most involving world of his, (his later ones being a slight case of style taking over from substance.) I just love what Laputa and those little robots taking care of the flowers and stuff are actually like when they finally get there and the mine and towns at the start are great as well...
Anyway, mostly just a fan post. Thumbs up Laputa!!! |

| Not the least bit surprised. Possibly my favourite Ghibli of all time. Everything about the movie is great. Superb music, fantastic story, beautiful art. It has the whole "evils of technology" message in it, but it doesn't try to beat it into the audience. I loved Laputa as a child and I still love it as an adult. Thank you Ghibli and Miyazaki for enriching my life T^T |

| Forgive me being stupid, but 200 weeks is about four years. And it said it was 200 strait weeks. If it has just now reached this point, does this mean it is selling better now than when it first came out 20 years ago? |

| The list is about DVD sales, and it's only been on DVD (in the US) for a relatively short while. |

| Well then I must be confused or something, because the title says "in Japan". And they site Oricon, which I thought only took in Japanese sales, I didn't know they took in US sales as well. |

Oricon doesn't count US releases though it might count the sales of Japanese items depending on the store. This article is only talking about the Japanese DVD release. |

If we are indeed only talking about DVD releases, then one should note from the main page article that the start date for Laputa DVD sales in Japan was 4 October 2002. |

Actually, Ghibli didn't start selling *any* DVDs until around 2000, when their then-most-recent movie Tonari no Yamada-kun was released.
I suppose they just never thought about it  |
