Time Bokan 24 (TV) Genres: Adventure, Comedy, Mecha Themes: Plot Summary: Tokio is a junior high student living in the present time who is suddenly made a member of the 24th century's Space-Time Administration Bureau. Immediately, he learns that the history he has learned in the textbooks is wrong, and there is a more interesting version of history where the peerless beauty Cleopatra is actually the comic duo of Cleo and Patra, Momotarō is more of an ogre than actual ogres. Together with his teammate Karen, they use the 24 Bokan Mecha to search for the True History. ---------------------------------- Episode 1: Well..I have to admit, that was pretty fun. It has the feel of a classic show and the character outfits were pretty colorful. Fantastic Time is also a catchy song. I think it was a decent way to set up the series, juts seems really fun with the way they introduced everything so far. Reminds me somewhat of Yoru no Yatterman. |

It was an enjoyable enough romp, and the production values were well done, but I feel like I'm just too old for its targeted audience and I don't have any nostalgic attachment to this franchise as this is the first I've seen any of it.

Episode 1
A little juvenile for my tastes, and that is despite myself being a recent fan of both Time Travel Girl and Puzzle & Dragons X, and for its origins it is not something like Yatterman Night. There were a couple kind of humorous things like asking why they have to do the random poses, but it gave away the punchline with even saying the episode name, and I can't quite make sense of why she had to grab him, or the villains trying to sabotage the performance would keep things the way they wanted. |

For what it's meant to be, it seems pretty good to me. Don't go into this expecting something like Yatterman Nights, or Gachaman Crowds, or any other sort of 'maturification' of a previous property. It's just a silly little kids show and needs to be viewed as such. Nothing about it feels especially bad or dumbed down. In fact, there's some (very) occasional that seem fairly above the target audience (like a reference to being a Black Company)
If it ain't your thing, it ain't your thing, but there's nothing ASTOUNDINGLY juvenile about it. Or maybe it just seems more mature than it is because in america, shows for youngsters tend to jump straight from six year olds to early teens. |
