I was just about to nominate Selector Infected WIXOSS as well. Man! That poor girl had it bad for her brother. The way the writers wrote her story I couldn't help but to feel sorry for her! She knew it was wrong but she couldn't help herself. That lead her down a destructive path with full of consequences! |

I don't understand this title " 7 Brother-Sister Romances That Went Too Far"
We are talking about fiction, right? This is something that can be pretty disturbing in real life but in fiction can make very good forbidden love stories. And they don't kill each other or commit suicide as far as i know. So they didn't went too far In many of this list stories, siblings be together at the end is best ending. |

I wonder what Japan thinks of Game of Thrones, which clearly has the most ultimate brother-sister twincest possible.
Anyway, as for Angel Sanctuary, I definitely found that brother-sister relationship really really creepy. I mean, the whole thing would've worked fine if they were childhood friends or something, I felt like the incest there was more for the sake of incest than anything else. Another creepy one you forgot was Maze: The Megaburst Space (of course, that anime is really forgettable to being with) |

Joffrey wasn't a dick because of incest. Joffrey was a dick because he had a narcissist, power-mad mother and a 'father' who loathed him. He was spoiled and never disciplined and that coupled with the power of being crown prince was the final nail in the coffin. There was nothing in the books to suggest that he was defective due to incest. That would have been born out by physical defects and mentally crippling conditions. For the record, incest is actually dangerous mostly in first degree situations i.e. brother/sister, father/daughter, mother/son. It is much less so for cousins although there is an increased risk as well (something like 4-5%. The long term effects of incest which span generations (like the England's royal family among several other royal families across the globe) are well documented. |

1. Incest doesn't need to result in children. 2. Children can be and are born with birth defects even outside of incest and everyone is okay with it, so this isn't really a good reason to criminalize incest. In general, I'm the kind of person who doesn't bat an eye at incest so long as it's consensual, but probably not between two people who grew up together because the potential for abuse and power dynamics is too strong, even if the two involved don't realize it, and it's not a good precedent to set. |

None of the titles mentioned are situations like that, nor is just about any other situation with incest or quasi-incest that I've seen come up in anime. Look, "incest is cool/acceptable" is a thing in anime fandom both in Japan and out, but even within the otaku community it's a small (if vocal) minority viewpoint and it has vastly tinier support if you step outside of otakudom. The overwhelming majority of cultures which currently exist or ever have existed in this world have had taboos and prohibitions against incest and there are documented psychological effects which reinforce the separating power of incest taboos. Even streaming porn sites are leery about outright classifying scenes as being incest. So this isn't a matter where some people are just being prudish. Championing incest is bucking a world that isn't growing towards greater acceptance of it, so expect harsh push-back if you do. Concerning other examples brought up, Maze and WIXOSS are both worthy of mention but I wouldn't consider them to be as strong an examples as any of the titles on this list that I'm familiar with (which is all but Kagihime and Eden). Of the titles that did get included, the only one I'd recommend is Koi Kaze, although it gets my highest recommendation for its masterful writing and sensitive treatment of the subject matter. I'd recommend Oreimo only if you conveniently forget that the last couple of OVA episodes exist. |

Koi Kaze was quite an emotional watch, seeing both brother and sister contending with issues involving their true feelings for one another. It makes me wonder if incestuous relations really are different...or perhaps no more different than any other relation...
Poll: Voted for Yukari Tanizaki, Nanako Kuroi, and Mizuho Kazami. I found them to be really fun and memorable teachers of their shows.

"I won't pretend to know why..." I think it's really, really obvious why, especially since most of these stories involve younger sisters. It's skeevy wish fulfillment. That's basically it.
I understand why Utena wasn't mentioned (serious discussion of its use of incest would necessitate discussion of spoilers) but it's really notable for its serious, non-fetishized plot points about this stuff. If it were released today it'd feel like a total deconstruction of these modern shows. |

The title of this article alone had me laughing. A brother sister relationship that could be considered romantic is thought to be too far by most. (I mean no disrespect by this to the writer, I thought it was an eye catching way to introduce the article.)
Joker Game was my favorite show of it's season and I think you're right, but I could see why people would vote for it. I put in effort to memorize who was who and still got confused what character we were following at times. I think it was a combo of all the characters dressing similarly, all having roughly the same hair length and the show jumping around without showing the cast together all that much before doing so. Though, it didn't detract from my enjoyment and it's still a favorite of mine. |
