I wonder if Chris Patton will reprise his role as original Kino.

Interestingly, the previous Kino is implied to have been an older version of the guy we saw accompanying Master on her journeys.

Wait, this if the first I've heard of this. It always seemed to me like the previous student was the dude at Kind Country selling Persuaders. Is this something you got only from this episode, or from the 2003 version?

You're right, the guy who gave Woodsman to Kino was Master's partner. That's why he wanted Kino to have it when he saw that she had Master's Canon. There's also a not so subtle hint in the opening, where you can see Master and her partner's faces reflected in Canon and Woodsman. Not really sure why the reviewer got the impression that Master's partner was old Kino.

Yes, I pointed this out a couple pages back in the hope of getting the thread talking about the episodes again but it got engulfed by the damn web-fight. If you go back to their big episode you can see him reloading Woodsman when they're in the tower.

I'd be interested in WHY Gabriella thought adult Kino was implied to be Master's apprentice. It seems to come out of nowhere.

I though it was obvious for the old man, that's why people didn't really talk about it. x)
Otherwise, the Kino boy can't be an older version of Partner considering his age in a Kind Land.
I guess she worded her sentence badly and meant the old guy in the previous episode (not Kino) was him.

Considering she was talking about entirely different episodes she would have had to word it very badly.

Although my point of the guy being the old man was not just pointing it out. I was comparing it to the first series, where we had no knowledge of Master's former apprentice. (In the previous version he had the obvious connection but was made out to just be a gunsmith who had made Canon). And also bringing up the opposite order of that episode and this. The Previouus series had "Adults" a few episodes before "Kind." You could say ending with Kind Country emphasized "endings" while having this one come after emphasizes "continuing."

or I'm seeing too much in it.

I didn't think the gender thing was all that big an issue. She dresses as a boy because as a lone traveler in her world it's safer to appear to be a boy than a girl. The land between cities seems to be lawless and quite dangerous.

But it still doesn't excuse them to freaking out and attacks anyone everytime Kino is potrayed/described remotely feminime. I've even seen someone ranting on a screenshot of blushing Kino and called it OOC. Eventhough the thing that make Kino blush is a freaking crepes and Kino being glutton has been a thing for 17 years. Or people flinging insult at crunchy(I think?) for using she for the story description. Don't get me started on people who were insulting Kuroboshi for drawing Kino sligtly curved (ironically they never say anything to the land of illness character designer's big boobed Kino).

There's no need saying things like Kino being female=she's part of the writer's fantasy girlfriend.

spoiler[All these made me wish we get Gakuen Kino adaptation too, just to troll people. But alas, it's impossible to pull all the gun porn with small budget.]
.

You'll soon realize people don't actually care about what a character is, just what desperate projections they can twist them into for thsir own selfish desires.

But yeah, the amount of salt a Kino Gakuen adaption would cause here would be amazing.

^That's interesting, I think most of the worst episodes (moving country, radiowave country and sheep field) are in the "not ranked" list. Since watching the latest episode I couldn't stop wondering why on earth would the public choose the sheep story, it's terrible all around. I still don't know why the anime staff decided to include it, but it's less puzzling than believing this ridiculously dumb story would be among the fan favorite

Yes, thanks for the breakdown. My first reaction to this episode was "Wow- this is a ridiculous story... how could have this been voted as a favorite?" Glad to know to know it wasn't.

I'm thinking the team may have thought the story was preposterous/funny but completely failed in showing any humor.

The problem with this logic is that Kino doesn't seem any more safe dressed as a boy than she would as a girl, and the few times where her sex played any part in the danger she was facing, the outfit didn't make any kind of difference. Kino is quite capable of defending herself, no matter how she presents, and the Master certainly had no trouble travelling openly as a woman. Suffice to say, this has never been so much as hinted as being Kino's motivation for dressing as she does.

No, it mirrors the original Kino's refusal to adhere to the pre-set definitions of "adult" or "child" in our Kino's home country: rejection of prescribed identity, not necessarily in a way that would suggest transgenderism, but definitely to reject social norms and expectations based on gender. Personally, I continue to view Kino as genderfluid; she (and I use the pronoun in this discussion for the sake of convenience) isn't bothered with being seen as a girl, but she doesn't restrict herself exclusively to that identity, like she doesn't restrict herself to any other bond that ties people to a single place or lifestyle.

That fight with the sheep has got to be one of the best moments in the franchise, it's not everyday you see a talking motorcycle being chased by a hoard of killer sheep, before all being burnt alive. I just wish this series had better art, the CG is really distracting, and more varied storylines.

he's talking about Sigsawa, the creator of Kino. He wrote Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online and i guess he's talking about how we will really see if he's a good writer or not with this one.
