This was posted on the COSP list. Because it is off topic there, I was hoping people could continue to discuss it here. My apologies to the ANN webmaster if this shouldn't be here.
*copy/paste* ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stephanie Brown" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, September 10, 2003 4:36 PM Subject: [cosp] WAY OT--About Ironcat Okay, I know most of you guys could care less, but this is a great public forum for me to make an announcement. As of July 31, 2003, I left my position of Editor at Studio Ironcat/I.C. Entertainment. Aside from personal matters that do not need to be aired in public, there was a very big reason that I and many fellow employees left. For three pay periods spanning June 16th to July 31st, we were NOT PAID. That's a total of 6 weeks. Our paychecks were withheld without our written consent and we were told to wait until some unspecified time in August for management to "catch up" on our paychecks. Those who left include: Duane Johnson (translator), Ellen Ohlmacher (freelance graphics artist), Kirk Morris (shipping department), Jason Balduf (graphics and editing jack-of-all-trades), and Kei Blue (domestic affairs manager). We all resigned our positions on the same day, except for Kirk who quit earlier in July. We are all still waiting on complete back pay. We have no intention of returning to work for the company. We (myself and all former employees) have never signed a non-disclosure agreement with the company. Everything that I have stated above is factual. I have made this statement because I've been informed of rumors stating that I still remained with the company when they are obviously false. I wish to make it clear that I have no interest in dealing with the owners of Studio Ironcat on a business level, nor a personal basis, EVER again once I have received my complete back pay. And I think that's enough to say. Tikki/Stephanie Brown Former editor of Studio Ironcat Discuss! |

Sounds like what's happening at Crossgen. What does Ironcat publish again?

This has turned into the most cryptic thread yet!
Anyway, it seems to be tough times for a lot of comics companies; Fantagraphics, Crossgen and Ironcat are all having problems. A quick glance at Ironcat's inventory shows that they don't have a lot of book collections out, and that's where manga's going in the west. Maybe if they can get some books out they'll be able to put things back together. |

Sam~ Dan is a member of the COSP YahooGroups list where this message was originally posted. As the COSP list is a cosplay-only group, and the post was Manga news related I requested that members discuss it here instead of the mailing list.

Sam:
I would be a friend of the parties involved, and I'm just wondering what your vague comment meant. But hey, who am I to stand in the way of your god given right to be vague? Dan |
