I wouldn't say it "PWNS" it, but it does measure up pretty well. I'd almost forgotten about the Gunsmith Cats theme. I really wish they would make an entire TV series of GSC. |

| Some great OPs that I had forgotten about and a few I had never heard before I resisted the urge to stab pencils into my ears the first few times this played and ended up liking it "Neko Mimi Mode" by Dimitri From Paris. The ANN trivia page has a good writeup on the significance of the images used in "Neko Mimi Mode". Not a rap fan (maybe rap sounds better in a foreign language? "Hero's Come Back!" by nobodyknows+ |

Perfect description of a sense of entitlement. I'm looking forward to the shakeup. It'll be fun to watch. Some years ago I realized it was never really the cartoons; it was always about the people I shared them with. I wonder what the new fandom will focus on when the dust settles. EDIT: Could someone reading this change my title? It's been some time since I worked for Chris. Last edited by garry on Sun Mar 16, 2008 8:03 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Okay, if you'd care to elaborate on that maybe there is some other reason why you think this but otherwise I think you've illustrated my point perfectly. If they think it's okay to take it they must think they're entitled to it right? No, these people just don't think that way. For them it comes down to nothing more than whether they physically can take it and what the results and consequences of doing so will be. The key difference being that in this case they don't feel that it should be available but simply that it is available and it has acceptable results and therefore they will watch it. |

This argument can only exist in a context where a sense of "right" and "wrong" and "could" versus "should" have been completely removed. Which at this point is basically what we have. They can so they will and who can blame them, right? After all, they can, so they are! It's sad how anime fandom justifies bitter cynicism. |

Thats not true at all. For starters, you're disregarding any thought to the results of their actions. Just because there isn't a real threat of punishment doesn't mean people aren't still looking at the other results of their actions and having that influence their decision. Even forgetting that, you're equating not needing to have somehow earned the right to something with a total lack of any morals. Thats simply not the case. Just because you don't feel that you need to be entitled to something doesn't mean you're also okay with taking that thing away from someone else. They don't feel like they need to do something to earn it but that does not necessarily mean that they are okay with taking money away from the industry. Maybe they decide despite these things to still download. The point is though that it is not as simple as "I can so I will". Contrary to what you said, there is still a question of whether they should take it. Just because they can take it and don't feel they need to have earned it doesn't mean they automatically will. There are still other factors to be considered. Also, nobody said this automatically means you can't blame them. I'm trying to explain why there is this divide and confusion about how the other side feels. I have no intention of debating something as pointless as blame. |

| Something else that's almost never accounted for in these arguments is that the majority of illegal downloaders will never buy the thing anyway, so the amount of money "the industry" is losing to them is fairly difficult to define.
Personally I think the industry should try to sell more tie in merchandise, like Gundam figurines for instance, the Star Wars franchise made far more money off the toys then the movies (though anime isn't successful enough to emulate that effect yet) |
