Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (TV)GoodAs a big fan of the manga and first series, it's good to get even more FMA anime, and the show has proven to be fairly solid. Though not really forming as deep an impression as the first series, the story and characters are nevertheless enough to make it an engaging experience. I'm looking forward to seeing how it approaches later manga material.
Hellsing (OAV)Very good (dub & sub)
Lupin III: Part II (TV)Good
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi (TV)
Naruto (TV)Not really goodThis predictable shonen fare was decent for the first few story arcs, but was quickly set upon by awful filler and predictable "twists" and melodrama. It can hardly be called "Naruto" - it's more fitting as "Sasuke", as it's mostly about the latter character than Naruto. The side characters like Rock Lee and Shikimaru are far more interesting than the main cast. I don't think I'll watch any more of this after the Sasuke Retrieval Arc.

Akira (movie)DecentAn anime classic with plenty of large-scale visuals and interesting elements... that have already been done before. Akira doesn't do a good enough job explaining, or even hinting, at its more complicated aspects, and settles for visual wonder and trippy, bizzare scenes to justify its mysterious namesake and the powers protecting it. It's worth seeing for the milestone it set for anime films of its time, but it somehow lacks the integrity of previous sci-fi titles, and certainly the manga from which it's based.
(The) Animatrix (OAV)Decent (dub & sub)
Appleseed (movie)GoodA decent action flick with some interesting ideas and exciting action scenes, but it doesn't excel in any particular area, and moreover, has its share of bad melodrama and ponderous plot elements. The CG isn't great either. The soundtrack is probably the highlight, with tracks by Basement Jaxx, Boom Boom Satelites, and others.
Armitage III Polymatrix (movie)Good
Armitage: Dual-Matrix (movie)Decent
Battle Angel (OAV)Decent
Battle Athletes (OAV)Awful
Be Forever Yamato (movie)Very goodA very good Yamato experience. There is some very well animated, energetic scenes here, like the invasion of Earth by the Black Nebula army. Some of the plot devices are absurdly predictable, but it doesn't detract too much from the enjoyment of this movie.
(The) Big O (TV)Decent (sub), Very good (dub)Big O is an interesting blend of retro-futuristic mecha action and mystery, with a snappy, often jazzy soundtrack and an art and a style reminiscent of Batman: The Animated Series (which was also partly animated by Sunrise). The series was popular enough in the United States for Adult Swim to finance a second season, with mixed results. Despite a bizzare, hurried ending and a change of style in the animation, the second season fares decently. Overall, the series is worth the price of admission, even if you might not feel completely satisfied by the end. An OVA chaser might work. I'm begging you, Sunrise.

Blue Gender (TV)So-so
Blue Seed (TV)Decent (dub), Good (sub)A somewhat underrated science fiction series that suffers from "monster of the week" syndrome for a good portion of it, but has some decent characterization as well as some informative background in Japanese mythology. What nags at me every time I watch it is, though, is how all the disasters that occured in the show which took so many people's lives could have been avoided by taking one person's. Dub isn't great, but isn't awful, either - pretty standard fare for 90s dubs, especially ADV products. The DVD boxset for this show was the first I ever owned.
Blue Submarine No.6 (OAV)Good
Bubblegum Crash (OAV)WeakLacking the brutality or production values of the original Bubblegum Crisis, its so-called sequel is a mess of regression, back-tracking, and ponderous character transformations. It's not by any means horrible, but it's just very bland and disappointing compared to Bubblegum Crisis, and while it attempts to resolve some issues from the classic, it came off feeling not only anti-climactic, but almost insulting. Hardcore Bubblegum Crisis fans might enjoy the return of a certain villian, but they'll more likely be scratching their head over the inconsistencies between the productions.
Bubblegum Crisis (OAV)MasterpieceCyberpunk at its best. Part Blade Runner, part Streets of Fire, the ultraviolent 80s retro-future world of MegaTokyo and the Knight Sabers makes for hours of entertainment. The music and strong voice performances are also to be commended.
