New Interpretation Stranger of Sword City PS Vita RPG Revealed for July

New features include new character, classes, mechanics, events

Japanese game developer Experience Inc. announced during its 10th anniversary celebration event at the Akihabara UDX on Monday that is developing a new version of its Stranger of Sword City (Tsurugi no Machi no Ihōjin) game for the PlayStation Vita titled Shinshaku Tsurugi no Machi no Ihōjin - Kuro no Kyūden (New Interpretation Stranger of Sword City - Black Palace). The game is slated for release in Japan on July 21 and will cost 3,800 yen (about US$35) for the limited edition, regular edition, or download edition. The limited edition will be limited to 5,000 copies, and will include an original novel by Benny Matsuyama.

The game will update the original Stranger of Sword City game with a number of new features, including new clocker and puppeteer classes, mechanics, and events. The game will also add Eltha from the company's Entaku no Seito: Students of the Round game.

Those who already own digital download copies of the earlier Tsurugi no Machi no Ihōjin - Kuro no Kyūden game will be able to upgrade their copy for 1,800 yen (about US$16).

Experience Inc. recently released the game on the Xbox One in North America on March 22, while NIS America released the game's PS Vita version in North America and Europe on April 26, and will release the game on PC via Steam in June.

NIS America describes the game:

Your flight crashes after passing through a mysterious portal. As the sole survivor, you awaken to an unfamiliar land lit by stars you've never seen. This land is Escario, the city of swords. Quickly marked as the Chosen One, the Stranger of Sword City, you must defend this place, and choose your allegiances carefully as you scour this land for a way home.

This title is, at its core, a game about death and fighting against vanishing forever. You will discover new meaning in the choices you make to survive against all odds. You will define yourself by the lives of those you leave behind, by the people you align yourself with, and the experiences you have on each new venture into the dark labyrinths that threaten to trap you.

Experience Inc. developed Stranger of Sword City, and released it in Japan on the Xbox 360 in June 2014, and on the PC in August 2014, both with the subtitle Shiro no Ōkyū (White Palace). Experience Inc. then released the game for the PlayStation Vita in January 2015 with the subtitle Kuro no Kyūden (Black Palace). Experience Inc. released a new version of the game with a new art style on the Xbox One in Japan on March 24.

In the game, players choose from human, elf, dwarf, ney, and migmy races; pick a character class; and navigate through dungeons to gain treasure while avoiding death from traps.
