Members of Council of Ten to appear in new anime

The combined second and third issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is revealing on Monday that Yūto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki's Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma manga is inspiring an original anime DVD (OAD) with a special edition of the manga's 25th volume, which will ship on July 4.

The issue also reveals that the OAD will feature the members of the Council of Ten. The issue features a visual with Soma and Eishi Tsukasa (who is first seat on the Council of Ten). The deadline to preorder the special edition that will bundle the DVD is on May 8. The special edition retails for 3,000 yen (about US$26).

The 24th volume of Tsukuda and Saeki's manga is also bundling an anime on DVD. The anime debuted at the Jump Special Anime Festa event on November 27, and will ship on May 2. The DVD will also feature the bonus short video "Nakama Ryō-ban Shokugeki no Sōma: Ukiyo wa Mazui yo."

The event anime has an original story, in which Soma and friends are at a hot springs resort for a day off. The anime features a table tennis battle for Megumi and Isshiki, a fishing showdown between Soma, Hayama, and Kurokiba, and an open-air bath scene with Erina and others.

Tsukuda and Saeki's manga previously inspired two television anime series. The first anime season aired for 24 episodes from April to September 2015. Crunchyroll streamed the first anime adaptation as it aired in Japan, and Sentai Filmworks licensed the series for North America. Sentai Filmworks also licensed Food Wars! The Second Plate, the second anime season. The 13-episode series aired in July-September, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired.

Shueisha published the 21st volume (pictured above right) of Tsukuda and Saeki's manga in Japan on November 4, and will publish the 22nd volume on December 31.
