Colossal Titan Makes Unexpected Appearance in Mega Shark Versus Kolossus

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The Asylum, the mastermind film group behind the jokey horror and "mockbuster" films like Sharknado, Snakes on a Train, Transmorphers, and Atlantic Rim are releasing their latest Mega Shark feature this year and it co-stars a very familiar looking monster. Mega Shark Versus Kolossus, or Mega Shark Versus Great Titan as it's called in Japan, pits the prehistoric giant shark versus a mechanized Colossal Titan lookalike.

IMDb gives the following story description:

In search of a new energy source, Russia accidentally reawakens the Kolossus - a giant robot doomsday device from the Cold War. At the same time, a new Mega Shark appears, threatening global security.

Asylum's whole schtick is to release over-the-top direct-to-DVD films or unabashed knock-offs while avoiding any legal issues. In this case, the titans in Attack on Titan are called kyojin while the Japanese title for this film writes it as "titan" written in katakana. The reference is obvious but it tip-toes around the copyright.

A DVD release is slated for June 7 in the U.S.
