What have any of the separately announced Microsoft news items to do with ANN? An E3 feature and highlight of anime related games are fine, but this underlines the purpose of the site. Is this how the whole week will look like?

The conference itself was fine, if safe. My Killer Instinct updates just commenced. Free stuff, yay.

And just like the Xbox One...I mean original Xbox...MS jumped ship early for reasons. Not surprising though.

It appears Microsoft is leaving the 8th generation of consoles before Nintendo is. Wow.

I don't think so, this is like that PS4+ thing, the system will be a minor upgrade over all, adding 4k Video, but not 4K gaming Xbone2 owners will be lucky to see 1080p games across the board.

I already have the Xbox One and will probably get the Scorpio since I have a 4K TV but I don't like having a console that's full power will never be unlocked with the old xbox one holding it back. 4K and 60fps is nice but I like new game play mechanics and destructible environments and better AI more.

I like to believe this just confirmed that Nintendo announcing the NX scared Sony and MS into announcing new console SKUs because they have no clue what Nintendo would do. Then again it's also possible it's just a reinforcement of how stupid the two companies are and how they don't understand that people don't care about power so much as having fun.

What part of "The greatest console ever built" and "true 4K gaming resolution and high fidelity VR" did you not understand(assuming you watched the conference that eplained this)? lol

I guess you missed the part where it's over 3 times stronger than the current XBOX ONE.

Doesn't matter though. It's releasing Holiday 2017. By then I can get a GTX 1070 for 200-250 dollars. I've spent 500 dollars on my PC in the last 6 years and it's stronger than an XBOX ONE and PS4. upgrading to that will be less than what XBOX fans will have spent on XBOX consoles in 4 years lol. 499 release price+400 (most likely) for Scorpio..+40 a year for XBOX Live. GG consoles...PCs are cheaper Anime hyper

And you also may have missed how Phil Spencer directly stated that Xbox One, Xbox One S and Scorpio will all be capable of playing the exact same games. He specifically assured people that those with the original Xbox One would not be left behind.

I think there is some confusion between the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio which will be another box that will be much more powerful.

Microsoft is basically leaving the console successor model behind with more frequent iterations similar to cell phone/PC upgrades.

At some point owners with an Xbox One will be left behind over the passage of time post-Scorpio as new games release that will not work on old specs. There just won't be a new 'numerical' Xbox coming. Microsoft is essentially selling us a PC in a box model. Like a Steam machine except only Microsoft makes them and likely a new one will be out every 2-3 years.

I personally don't like this trend which even Sony seems to be following.

This is funny, by the time the NX launches, and assuming it'll be the same power as the PS4/XBONE - it will be outdated again with the XBONE + and the PS4 NEO

Click-bait. More clicks = more ad revenue. Seems ANN is hungry for some extra ca$h

Apparently not enough people had fun with the WiiU Smile or Xbox One.

Except the thing is Nintendo legitimately did reach their limit with the Wii U and are moving on. A full five years and some change is nothing new for the games industry. The XB1 and the PS4 meanwhile are barely even getting a rhythm going and they're already making new hardware SKUs. I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering the bad moves both of them have made in the past (like Sony being clueless of what to do with handhelds and then the dual bungles of Move and Kinect). It really just goes to reinforce the idea that Sony and MS don't have much of a clue of how to manage a gaming company.

So far the rumors are proving to be true (and this has been quite a leaky E3 2016 - a lot of stuff have already been leaked prior):

  • 6 Teraflops of GPU processing power to handle 4K-native game resolutions
  • Rendering at 60 Hz
  • 8 CPU cores
  • 320 GB/second memory bandwidth

If the Microsoft and Oculus partnership comes to fruition, then Scorpio has to be made powerful enough to run the Rift VR, which requires more resources since it has higher specs than other VR.

For XB1 it wouldn't matter too much since MS said going forward, that Xbox systems would be backwards and forwards compatible - so all XB1 games and accessories will be compatible with all 3 systems (XB1, XB1 Slim, Scorpio). And I assume that includes the X360 Backwards Compatibility VM that runs on XB1.

Now the only thing left is: MS also said that the next Xbox would be upgradable, so how would that process be done with Scorpio?

Seems Scorpio would be a "PC console" - what with MS combining the Xbox and Win10 ecosystems under the Universal Windows Platform, so that games and apps that run on one would also run on the other. So Scorpio is basically a "standardized gaming PC" for people who don't want to deal too much about upgrading, drivers, optimizing, tweaks, etc. that PC gamers enjoy tinkering with. For developers, they only have to code once for both Scorpio and PCs (instead of porting) and can use the "standardized PC" as the baseline, instead of having no standard baseline PC that exists right now.
