Does make sense since you can use the touchscreen!

Interesting, although I worry that they're removing many of the features that Super Mario Maker players care about the most, such as online course sharing.

Yep and honestly I don't see a point in picking up this port because of that.

I see no point getting this as I have the original game... The fact that you can't share courses online and can't search courses is BS

Add the fact that all of the extra characters that appeared in the WiiU version of Super Mario Maker won't appear in the 3DS version of it, and that makes it virtually a worthless buy unless you want to play it on the go.

Thank you, Nintendo. I was waiting for this.

at first I was like: "boo-frikken-yeah!!!"
but after reading that you can't look up courses by ID and can't share the courses you made online, now I'm thinking "what's the point???"
such a major let down. And here I was waiting and hoping so long for a 3ds port. feelsbadman :/
really really hope they reverse their decision on that due to public outcry... assuming there will be a public outcry(not likely considering most people that want the game already have it)
but tbh, what would cause such strange choices in the first place???

Those "extra" characters are costumes that exist for pure novelty purposes and only exist in the Super Mario Bros. courses anyway.

Sounds like this game's getting the Smash Bros. treatment. I'm sure it'll still sell really well regardless. (Hey, that's five words in a row with double L's.)

I'd guess that's due to copyright issues. There are a LOT of Mystery Mushrooms of non-Nintendo characters, including the likes of Hello Kitty, the Babymetal band, and a Mercedes GLA. It might not be worth the money to get another license to use these characters, as the asking price will undoubtedly be higher (between the success of Super Mario Maker being a known fact, the 3DS's higher popularity, and the need to acquire every license).
