Nice as this was in replicating the song with classical instruments, I can't help thinking of what a person of a century or more ago in Japan would think of this. Being a fan of Kabuki and traditional melodies and comparing to that as a measure of what people liked, I think they would think it exceedingly strange, needlessly busy and not very enjoyable.

That sounds remarkably like adults discussing rock and roll covers of 40s tunes back in the late 1950s. Very Happy

That so made my day--and I'm not even a fan!

But it makes me wonder just why a classically trained master like Kineie-sensei and her fellows would consent to such a performance. I do hope there was an element of sincere, good-natured willingness. Can anyone out there give a little insight?

Care to give examples of those? I didn't hear anything fitting that description and actually the reverse was true, many older adults liked the "rock and roll" songs done with melodic treatment and didn't realize they were covers. Hear of Ferranti and Teicher, the Ray Conniff Orchestra? Compare Moonlight Densetsu to these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4emogJU_pdA

I was thinking of rock groups covering older songs. The most obvious that comes to mind is Blue Moon by the Marcels
