Exceeding expectations is always good, especially considering all the factors working against them. There is always the chance that expectations are exceeded because they were set too low to begin with, but I'm going to just count this as a good thing.

It's obvious this was going to happen, especially because of One Piece, the best anime/manga ever. Still the yr haven't finished yet...and it is still better then nothing, at least a full season isn't $100 (though I don't see much of those anywhere)

Glad to see Funi is doing good. Considering they have changed a lot of their old ways and much better dubbing and much better pricing and many more box sets at decent prices. This is very good news.

LOL. Any order helps their sales, but it would have to be a truly giant order for any particular order to make any real difference in their overall sales when the numbers we're talking about are in the millions.

"Yes. Hello Funimation. I'd like to order 1,000 copies of every series you sell. Thank you."

Wouldn't I love to have that kind of cash...

Good that an anime company is doing well, but a shame afro samurai got emmy nominated...then again there really isnt too much in the "Outstanding Animated Program (for programming one hour or more)" category to begin with

I think you because of Dragonball Z and Afro Samurai, One Piece isn't even on the list...

I suppose I can feel a modest amount of pride for buying a couple of Funi DVDs this year. I must have made a positive difference!
Come to think of it, two of the titles I acquired kept going out of stock in several stores, so either they're releasing more desirable products or simply maintaining low sales expectations.

To avoid making a scandalous assumption, I assume Dragon Ball was their key franchise for reasons aside the recent film release...

That's great news! It's nice to see something every once in a while that doesn't say that the industry is collapsing.

Fooling suckers into buying those awful orange brick "season" boxsets of Dragon Ball Z worked out very well for Funimation.

Fine by me. As long as it helped fund getting those Dragon Boxes over here.

Its not so much the orange boxes as it is the fact that they chopped the top and bottom off of every scene in order to make it "wide screen". I mean, when I buy a show I want the whole show.

Like I've said, DBZ is a show that while I enjoy as a guilty pleasure, I don't particularly enjoy it enough to spend too much on. Cheap sets are fine with me, and widescreen didn't bother me as it only "chopped" heads like once per set. So I hardly consider myself a sucker since I went the cheaper route. Plus, the season sets' spines are cooler-looking, which is always important to me. Wink

Entirely my point. Trusting the domestic licensor/distributor to remaster a series, especially Funimation, is risky.

Toei's Dragon Boxes are the real remaster. Hopefully Funimation will keep its mitts of the video given to them. I don't need their "touch ups". Let Toei decide how I watch DBZ, not a group of chumps who can't even dub it in English competently.

(Yes, I'm aware that, eventually, those chumps will have my money for their release of the Dragon Boxes, so I guess they laugh last.)

Indeed! lol I'm glad to hear things are looking a little better for Funimation or any other anime company for that matter. Well played, Funi. Well played.
