Anno's best-known involvement with Hayao Miyazaki was more than a quarter-century ago, when Anno drew the monstrous "God Warrior" for Hayao Miyazaki's 1984 film Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind.

Geez, they made it sound like 1984 was ancient times from this quote.

Yeah... whole "Quarter century ago..." sounds ancient.

Publishing the book is nice and all, but who is going to release it in English?

So that's Goro Miyazaki, huh, he looks different than I expected.

Quarter century... 1984... Wasn't Gainax formed in 1983-1984? Or, I guess that was just around when Daikon came out, but I figured Gainax was formed sometime around then. Why would Hideaki Anno go animate for Mr. Miyazaki when they were just getting Gainax formed? But then, Wings of Honneamise came around 1987 I think, so that's 3 years later... and then Gunbuster in 1988... It just seems kinda random that Hideaki Anno would go to animate a sequence with Hayao Miyazaki's film group like that. Laughing I wonder what the story is around that?

I'm halfway to really wanting to read this. Hayao Miyazaki and, if to a lesser extent, Hideaki Anno can be a little, shall I say, hard to take, but they usually can say a few interesting things, even if just for the sheer idiosyncrasy of it. I doubt that I could resist scrutinizing the exchanges between Hayao and Goro for hints of some submerged tension. What deters me is the subject; it sounds like it might be one of those art-school discussion that I can never really get a toehold in. Abstract discussions about art just somehow seldom seem nteresting or useful to me.

That's the year I was born. Now I feel sad. Oh well, maybe my mood will improve when my social security check comes.

Anyone feel like Goro is just tacked on here? I mean it's like "hmmm, let's think, who doesn't belong?"
