This thing is one of the several stupid things in 3.33. I mean, come on, Wille has an airship? How can they even afford this?

You ask this but then ignore the whole city that conviniently sits on top of hydraulic actuators so as to have retractable buildings. The site of which is on top of cavernous underground base with a giant Angel bait that draws in numerous Angel attacks and several self detonated N2mines. Nevermind the fact that Japan is on top of the Ring of Fire and have constant earthquakes which they have to engineer around. The astronical value of making a city over armor so thick and enough supports to hold all that weight over a maasive underground expanse is mind-blowing.

Nerv is funded by a secret cabal of government elites. Who's fitting the bill for a GIANT AIRSHIP for Wille? And wouldn't it just be a huge target for Nerv? And why not spend the money used to make that ship and, I don't know, use it to buy a couple of nukes and obliterate Nerv so they don't have to worry about Lilith or spears? There's only four people down there, anyway, and most people are dead.

Who designed that thing? Did they all sit down in a board room, thinking of the best design for a giant f***-you-Gendo-Ikari-airship, and some person just came in with that really bizarre, impractical design and they all applauded and thought it was the best idea? That ship doesn't even have restraints! Misato's tumbling over every two minutes in that thing!

It's just hilariously over the top, even for Evangelion. I cannot take a scene with that ship in it seriously.

How can NERV afford any of the crazy bullshit they've got? The geofront alone would probably consume the entire world economy.

i'd imagine making a profit is the least of peoples concerns during the apocalyptic situation the world is in, but there has to be a limit to that.

@penguintruth

You're thinking about it too seriously. Too much adult rationale, but not enough child-like fascination. It's just a fantasy meant for fun.

Besides, it's really cool for someone to come up with custom model kit of that air ship. I like Japanese fandom and their initiative, whether it's garage kit or dojinshi, to make something nice.

They didn't buy it, they built it themselves. It's not clear how big they are, but considering they comprise at least the fleet the AAA Wunder commands, there's no reason to assume they don't have the manpower to build their things. Considering how many characters from foreign branches there are, it's logical to assume that everyone who isn't Seele and Nerv's Japanese branch is on their side and united in the goal of stopping Gendo and the old men at Seele from ending the world.

Maybe MIsato and co didn't build the ship.

Most likely it was already being built as a prototype at one of many NERV/Seele branches around the world.

Then there was a coup d'etat and Misato and a bunch of branch rebels & engineers stole it. Likely with the help of whatever organization Kaji was working with. It would also explain why they're so understaffed with civilians and inexperienced members.

For all we know, Misato and Wille's actions were all foreseen and accorded for by SEELE who decided to just sit back and offer little resistence. So in other words Misato and Wille taking the ship, much like stealing an Eva would play right into SEELE's hands.

It looks like a good number of people also might've died in the attempt. Including:

spoiler[Some of the NERV main staff, only Ibuki seems to have made it but the other two guys (forgot their names) might've died.

Kaji is also likely dead. Asukla seems to hint at this when after Shinji asks where Rei is, she moans, "So much fuss over losing just one person." Then glares at Misato and says, "Isn't that right?" It is likely Asuka might've become depressed when Kaji died and Misato forced her to get over it, likely also dealing with the tragedy herself.

I'm guessing 4.0 will recap events that happened over the past 14 years. Asuka probably tells Shinji everything that happens as they're walking about.]

Well, I'm imagining a fraction of NERV broke off and named themselves Willie. Look, they even have Tunniel as Wunder's main support structure, and that thing was at the Bethany base before being stopped by Mari. Stealing an angel corpse if you're an entire other organization is probably...difficult. And if it's not that exact angel, it certainly looks based off of it.

The part where you failed was when you tried to put real world logic in a series that can be described as contemporal fantasy.

The Eva units alone would break the world's economy for what they can do and that is before getting into Tokyo-3 as others have mentioned.

Thie is based on dialogue speculation spoiler[ The main structure of Wunder is a super prototype based on artificial Angel technology, similar to the nemesis series that are being fought in 3.33, unit 09 was assumabley intended to be the original core for Wunder as a means to be the final weapon againt mankind short of an evolved form True Eva/True Angel fusion.
Wunder was more than likely a Nerv production and was at some point captured by Wille as they certainly wouldn't want such a powerful weapon used against them.
To the point, it isn't a man made ship by any means and that is WHY it looks wierd because the main body is an artifical angel]

No, I don't think I'm applying too much logic. There has to at least be some sort of internal logic, and a massive airship violates that even in the world of this story, especially when they do almost nothing to establish what Wille is or who funds them within the movie itself, and that's just par for the course when literally nothing else in the movie matters but what happens to Shinji. There are no other character arcs, and everything, including the technology, is just sort of there because it is there. It's a lot of nonsense. The movie is a real mess.

Because Eva+Angel= End of the World is completely believable, but airship made up of an angel's corpse is TOO OUTLANDISH!

Next you are going to complain about the Iron Man movie series about how Tony's power suits can fly and has compartments for weapons that shouldn't be there.

Actually, yes. It is. Because the Evangelions and Angels are well established in the movies and their functions have been at least somewhat explained. The airship is not established, they take no time to explain it, it just appears and you're supposed to just accept it. It's impossibly impractical even for the Eva universe, because it's an unwieldy target and nobody even bothers establishing who Wille is, you have to read footnotes to get even basic plot points, and that's a big problem.

But I guess since this is based on a TV show where you have to get plot points from a video game, maybe it is too much to ask.
