Miyazaki stated that receiving the award is "an honor" even if traveling to the United States from Japan is a "bit of a bothersome thing" for him.

Same old Miyazaki.

This dude needs to retire already. I only like 3 of his movies, the rest are not interesting.

We don't live in the past anymore.

Umm he already retired? That's why he's getting the award. Also there are a lot of people who like all of his movies. So he shouldn't base his decision to retire on your opinion of his movies.

I'm surprised that he decided to accept it, but the response is typical Miyazaki.

Furthermore, get off his lawn.

Would love to go, but you just know you have to blow the right people for that. Ah, well, at least I seen him twice in person already. Cool

Hey, genius. If you like three movies of his, then guess what? You think he's a good director.

Well, truly deserved. From among the hates, no one can argue he's one of the best out there. Congrats and enjoy the Academy visit, Miyazaki-san!

Because a movie's quality rests solely on the director. Sorry I don't have a dumb internet meme to accompany this post.

Unless the staff of those movies are identical otherwise, after about three movies, it should be pretty clear that it IS the director.

Hey, genius. If you like three movies of his, then guess what? You think he's a good director.

OR, it could be that (in the poster's opinion) he WAS a good director but not any more.

"I only like the original Star Wars movies, so George Lucas should stop doing Star Wars stuff"

"You like 3 of his movies, so obviously he's a genius director"

no?

And based on all the other stories about him, I assume Miyazaki is coming to America MAINLY to see Cars 3 and make out with John Lasseter who convinced him to stop by the Academy (and maybe mention Cars 3 in his speech).

I know I'm straying off topic, but I should point out that of the three original films Lucas only directed the first.
