Ika Musume/Squid Girl Fishing iPhone/iPad Game Sold

posted on by Egan Loo
Players can "fish" for Ika Musume by dangling shrimp bait

The Japanese character goods maker MOVIC began selling a fishing game inspired by the Shinryaku! Ika Musume (Squid Girl) anime for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad devices on Friday. The 230-yen/US$1.99 Ika Musume Tsurana-ika game lets players "fish" for Squid Girl by dragging a dangling shrimp bait left and right across the screen.

Not only can players land the title character herself (10 points), but also Mini Ika Musume (30 points) and Nise/Fake Ika Musume in prototype or upgraded form (both 5 points). Other familiar characters from the anime make appearances.

The anime adapts Masahiro Anbe's comedy manga about a squid girl who vows to invade the beaches of mankind since humans have polluted the seas. However, her invasion is less than successful, and she ends up on dry land.

The first season premiered last October, and the media-distribution website Crunchyroll streamed the anime outside Japan as it aired. Media Blasters has scheduled its North American DVD release of the first season for this September. The upcoming second season is called Shinryaku!? Ika Musume.

Yotchan Foods revealed earlier this year that it is offering its official "Cut Yotchan x Shinryaku! Ika Musume" dried squid snacks.
