Mayu "Mayuyu" Watanabe, Miku Tanabe appear in costume at handshake event
Mayu Watanabe, a member of the all-female idol group AKB48 and a self-professed anime fan, cosplayed as Sheryl Nome from the Macross Frontier anime during an AKB48 handshake event at the Tokyo Big Sight event center on February 5. "Mayuyu" also posed with fellow AKB48 member and anime fan Miku Tanabe, who dressed as K-ON's Yui Hirasawa.
Not coincidentally, Watanabe was cast in the AKB0048 television anime series from Macross Frontier co-creator Shōji Kawamori and his Satelight studio.
