Girls & Panzer's Armor-Piercing Shell Pillow Gets 101,000-Yen/US$1,020 Bid

Pillow originally sold for 3,000 yen/US$30 by dojin circle

A Yahoo! Auctions Japan user named "amaterasu_0707" is auctioning one of Circle Gewalt's 1/1-scale 7.5cm KwK 37 tank round dakimakura (hugging pillow), and as of Monday, the highest of 68 bids is 101,000 yen (about US$1,020). Bidding began at 3,000 yen (US$30), the original cost from the dōjin circle.

The ammo is based on rounds used by character Yukari Akiyama's Anglerfish team's Panzer IV tank from Girls und Panzer. The auction opened on Sunday, and it will close on Monday at 11:00 p.m. in Japan (10:00 a.m. EDT).

The first allotment of the pillow was sold at the Girls und Panzer "Sailor Fuku to Senshadō" dōjinshi event at the Oarai Cultural Center in Ibaraki Prefecture on May 4. The pillow comes with a box and bonus dōjinshi themed as a handbook for the pillow. Gewalt reported that the first allotment sold out just hours into the event.

A line of more than 100 people gathered to get one of 75 pillows at the Comic ZIN Akihabara shop on Sunday. A lottery was used to distribute the pillows. Akihabara News reported that 107 people participated in the lottery, and when someone pulled a winning lot, some customers yelled the catchphrase, "Panzer vor!" for the winner.

Other auctions for the item have reached 10,500 yen (US$105), 12,500 yen (US$125), and 81,000 yen (US$820).
