You Can Design Rozen Maiden's '8th Doll' in Contest

Manga creators Peach-Pit to draw art of winning design; anime to premiere July 4

The 48th issue of Index Communications's Gothic & Lolita Bible, a quarterly mook (magazine/book hybrid) on the Gothic Lolita fashion movement, announced on Friday that it is collaborating with the new Rozen Maiden television anime on the "8th Doll" contest. The campaign asks fans to imagine if an eighth doll appeared in the Rozen Maiden series, in addition to the existing seven doll characters. Fans can submit an idea for a doll with a name and illustration until July 8.

The original Rozen Maiden manga creators Peach-Pit will draw an illustration of the winner's submission. The lolita clothes brand Alice and the Pirates will create clothing based on the winning entry, and Pullip will also make a doll inspired by the fan design. The winner will be announced in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine on August 24 and in the next issue of Gothic & Lolita Bible.

The official website for the new anime also revealed on Friday that the series will premiere on July 4. New cast members include Natsumi Takamori (Pretty Rhythm Dear My Future, Another) as Saitō, Shou Sudou (Monsuno, Beelzebub) as a shop manager, and Satoshi Mikami (Lupin III: the Last Job, Jewelpet) as Laplace no Ma.

The website released the new series' first promotional video and key visual last month. Mamoru Hatakeyama (Sankarea) is directing the new anime at Studio DEEN. Ryota Ohsaka plays Jun Sakurada, while Asami Sanada reprise her role as Jun Sakurada in middle school.

The Rozen Maiden Blu-ray Box 1 set, which includes all 12 episodes of the first television series, shipped in Japan on Friday for 19,950 yen (about US$195). Rozen Maiden Blu-ray Box 2 will include the Rozen Maiden - Träumend sequel television anime and Rozen Maiden: Ouvertüre special. That Blu-ray Disc set will ship in Japan for 22,575 yen (US$221) on June 28.
