Male Hestia Cosplayer Asks, 'Is It Wrong to Pick Up Dudes in a Dungeon?'

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Crossplay, whether its women dressing as male characters or men dressing as female characters is nothing new in the world of cosplay. Some do it out of love for the character, or for the comedic effect of seeing what is usually a scantily clad character sporting a beard. Reddit user roberoonska achieved the latter by cosplaying DanMachi's Hestia — blue ribbon and all — at Anime North in Canada.

Roberoonska's version includes white cotton boxer briefs and a long tank top. He met fellow Hestia enthusiasts and even showed his mastery over the pigeon-toe pose.

As for the ribbon, wearing it correctly was surprisingly difficult. The cosplayer wrote:

It took me like 10 attempts to tie a ribbon that was the perfect length. Half an inch too long and it wouldn't stay; half an inch too short and I couldn't move my arms. I have to say that the most uncomfortable part about it was that it kept on chaffing my nipples. They hurt after wearing it for a couple of hours, especially when it was cold outside.

The character's popularity has soared since the series premiered in April. The "That String" (#例の紐) trend caused a flurry of interesting fanart while the character has gotten more than her fair share of dōjinshi.
