Death Note Classifieds: Part-Time Shinigami Wanted

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The part-time job news service An has a listing searching for Shinigami (gods of death) in the lead-up to the opening of the Death Note franchise's newest film, Death Note Light up the NEW world. Yes, you too could hold life and death in your fingertips with the use of a provided magical notebook.

Or maybe not. The job listing fails to mention whether successful applicants will be provided with an actual Death Note.

However, the listing does promise that part-time Shinigami will receive 60,000 yen (about US$588) for a day's work, plus full travel expenses. And of course, successful candidates will also receive an apple. Judging damned souls works up an appetite.

The job involves performing as "Ryū-kun" (pictured below), a cuter, less menacing version of the Death Note franchise character Ryuk. Ryū-kun will appear alongside the film's actors at four promotional events in Japan. Events will take place in Sapporo on October 6, Fukuoka on October 10, Nagoya on October 12, and Tokyo on October 20. One part-time Shinigami will be selected for each location.

Applicants must be available to participate on the appropriate day. The only other listed job requirement is being "someone who can become a Shinigami who descended to the earth." Interested people can apply until September 25. Successful applicants will be announced on September 28.

Everyone, god of death or not, can catch the live-action sequel film when it opens in Japan on October 29. Voice actress Miyuki Sawashiro will play Ama, a new "seductive and beautiful Shinigami." A three-episode prequel mini-series titled Death Note NEW GENERATION will premiere on Hulu on Sunday.
