Become a Mascot-Loving Ikemen With Sanrio Boys Cosplay

The retail chain Animate's cosplay shop ACOS unveiled Sanrio Danshi (Sanrio Boys) cosplay school uniforms on Thursday. The outfits transform Sanrio fans into mascot-loving ikemen characters from the multimedia project.

The Hijirikawa High School uniforms include a jacket with embroidered patch, pants, and a neck tie. People who want to create accurate cosplay will have to supply their own white shirt. The set will be available in medium, large, and extra-large sizes for 16,000 yen (about US$140). The cosplay uniforms will be available at ACOS and Animate stores throughout Japan on April 13.

The Sanrio Boys project began streaming a promotional video in October for its first single, "Fun! Fantastic girl!," which shipped in Japan on November 16.

The Sanrio Boys are a group of high school boys with a soft spot for Sanrio characters; they bond over their shared interest and feel less ashamed of their love of cuteness. In the Sanrio Danshi ~ Watashi, Koi o, Shirimashita~ (Sanrio Boys: I Knew Love) smartphone dating app game, the player character has five eligible boyfriends and can reach two types of endings. She can also bond with the boys over their shared love of Sanrio characters — with couple-coordinated outfits and rooms.

Sanrio unveiled the Sanrio Boys project last December, and its romance otome game launched this past September. Mai Andō launched the project's first manga series on the Manga ONE app in April and a separate manga in Shogakukan's Sho-Comi magazine in June. The Sanrio Boys merchandise line also released clear files and key chains in June.
