One Piece, Naruto, More Manga Creators Commemorate Final Makibao Volume

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Popular manga creators like One Piece's Eiichiro Oda and Naruto's Masashi Kishimoto showed their support for colleague Tsunomaru in this year's 11th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Playboy magazine on Monday. Tsunomaru ended his Taiyō no Makibaō W (The Rising Sun from the Ocean) manga in the 20th volume on Februray 17. The volume also serves as a capstone the entire Makibaō series that began in 1995 with the Midori no Makibaō manga.

13 different artists participated in the send-off illustrations included in the magazine. The artists include Yudetamago (Kinnikuman), Akira Miyashita (Sakigake!! Otoko Juku), Masanori Morita (Rokudenashi Blues, Rookies), Kyōsuke Usuta (Pyu to Fuku! Jaguar), Eiichiro Oda, Masashi Kishimoto, Yūsuke Murata (One-Punch Man), Kōsuke Masuda (Gag Manga Biyori), Kōji Ōishi (Inumarudashi—), Shūichi Asō (Saiki Kusuo no Psi Na), Gatarō Man (Dragon Ball Gaiden) and Jigoku no Misawa (Kakko-Kawaii Sengen!).

Midori no Makibaō focuses the world of horse jockeys. Midori Makibao is a small but spirited racehorse determined to make the track his own, defeat his long-time rival Cascade, and free his mother who was taken as debt payment.

The issue also includes interviews with cast members from the Midori no Makibaō anime series. Inuko Inuyama, the voice of Makibao, as well as Tesshō Genda and Shigeru Chiba lent their words of congratulation.
