One-Punch Man Anime Gets 4-Volume Character Drama, Song CD Series
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Although Saitama and friends are already experts at using their muscles, the heroes will soon get a new chance to exercise their vocal chords. The One-Punch Man anime is inspiring a four-volume audio drama and character song CD series.
Each CD will feature a story and junior high school "parallel story" for one character. Original manga creator ONE is providing the original concept and supervising the audio dramas. In addition, each CD will feature an audio drama of the original manga's extra chapters. The anime's voice actors are reprising their roles on the CDs, and the anime's character designer Chikashi Kubota is drawing original CD jacket art.
JAM Project is also writing and performing character image songs for the CDs. The first CD will have a Saitama song, the second will have a Genos song, the third will have a Speed-o'-Sound Sonic song, and the fourth CD will have a song for an unannounced character.
One-Punch Man Maji CD Drama & Song Vol. 1 CD will feature the "Saitama, Tekoiresuru" audio drama, "Bangai-hen '200 Yen'" audio drama, and the first chapter of the "Parallel Gakuen Drama 'Chūgakusei Saitama'" audio drama. "Bangai-hen '200 Yen' is based on Yūsuke Murata's extra chapter of the manga. The CD's three remaining tracks will be a cast talk, JAM Project's Saitama song, and a karaoke version of JAM Project's Saitama song. The three audio dramas will be about 40 minutes long in total, and both the character song and cast talk will be about 10 minutes long each. The CD will ship on September 27 for 3,000 yen (about US$27).
The "Parallel Gakuen Drama" is also inspiring character key holders. A CD set bundling acrylic key holders of Saitama, Genos, and Speed-o'-Sound Sonic will ship on the same day as the regular version of the CD. The set will cost 5,000 yen (US$46).
The series' second CD will ship on December 20, followed by the third on March 21, and the fourth on June 20, 2018.
Five of the anime's main cast members already participated in a drama CD that will bundle with the manga's ninth volume in August 2015.
