Rumiko Takahashi Celebrates Idol Group NGT48's 1st Anniversary

In 2015, the AKB48 sister idol group NGT48 launched in Niigata prefecture followed by stage performances in their own theater on January 10, 2016. The group celebrated the first anniversary of their stage performances with a special performance on January 10 and a concert on January 20.
Manga juggernaut Rumiko Takahashi's Lum Invader is evidently a fan. Takahashi drew Lum for the cover of the Blu-ray and DVD release of the anniversary performance which goes on sale on July 7.
The real reason for the collaboration is Takahashi shares her hometown with the idol group. She's also a Niigata native.
The idols of NGT48 starred in the live-action television adaptation of Ryūkishi07 and 07th Expansion's popular When They Cry - Higurashi (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni) horror software last year. Two of the group's members, Yuka Okino and Rie Kitahara, were voted into the top 10 of this year's AKB48 Senbatsu Election.
