Conan Stars in TV Ads for Magic Kaito Manga's 5th Volume

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

For the first time in about 10 years, Gōshō Aoyama's Magic Kaito manga received a new book publication. The series' fifth compiled book volume shipped on Tuesday. To celebrate the occasion, the protagonist of Aoyama's Detective Conan (Case Closed) manga is appearing in television commercials to promote the release.

In the commercials, a kigurumi version of Conan Edogawa reads the Magic Kaito manga. The commercials debuted during the broadcast of the Detective Conan anime on Saturday, and they are currently streaming on the official Detective Conan Facebook page.

The special Treasured Edition of the manga's fifth volume and the 93rd volume of the Detective Conan manga also shipped simultaneously on July 18.

The original Magic Kaito manga revolves around a young magician named Kaito Kuroba who follows in his late father's footsteps as the legendary thief Kaitō Kid. The character also appears in Detective Conan stories, often as a formidable rival.

Aoyama launched a new mini-series, the first in three years, for Magic Kaito in April. The work marked Aoyama's various manga series reaching a combined 200 million copies in print worldwide.

Aoyama launched the Magic Kaito manga in 1987 and put the series on hiatus in 1988. The manga has been serialized irregularly since then. The manga's fourth compiled book volume shipped in 2007. The manga inspired a 12-episode television anime special series between 2010 and 2012 and the 24-episode television anime Magic Kaito 1412 in 2014.
