Innovative Designer Brings Magic Weapons Closer to Reality
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
FriskP is a tech designer with a steampunk aesthetic. She's created items like a propeller watch that looks like something out of Bladerunner, and her latest creation utilizes similar technology for a stunning, realistic effect.
FriskP created a special effects weapon resembling a blaster rifle that appears to create a magic incantation before shooting a fireball. The effect is created by using light bouncing against rapidly moving fan blades. Unlike FriskP's watch though, the magic gun has upgraded graphics. It uses tech start-up Life is Style's Phantom, a "versa-writer" like the previously mentioned fan concept.

The effect is something straight out of Fullmetal Alchemist. FriskP used the technology to change it from a handheld to a gun model. FriskP used a 3D printer to create the parts to mount the Phantom to a toy gun. She then used a CAD program to create the mount model before 3D printing it and used free Nive2 software to create the animation.
