News Shochiku Solicits New Anime
posted on 2007-02-21 16:15 EST
At the European Film Market (which takes place at the Berlin Film Festival), Shochiku solicited two new anime: "Summer Days with Koo" by Crayon Shin-chan director Keiichi Hara, about a fourth grader who adopts what turns out to be a kappa (Japanese water spirit) and "Vexille", a 3D CG action feature by Fumihiko Sori, producer of Appleseed and director of Ping Pong, a live-action feature slated to be released by Viz Pictures.
The two films were advertised in Shochiku's festival circular to potential buyers, which included artwork and information on the films. Summer Days with Koo (Kappa no Coo to Natsuyasumi) is scheduled for completion in the summer, while Vexille is expected to be finished in the fall. No Japanese release dates have been announced yet.

As far as conclusions go, this arc has one of the strongest. While Eye Opening revealed some important information about the Sonozaki family in general and the twins in particular, Atonement makes us look at what information we already have in a different way.
While the story still has its logical flaws, it remains an engaging read that holds up well despite the passing of years and this volume continues to keep up both the promise and nostalgia of Takeuchi's masterwork.
Overall, neither Pokemon the Movie: Black or its White counterpart really stands out from the already packed herd. While not terrible, these are films that can be safely left alone unless you or your child have a compulsion to truly catch 'em all.
