Animax to Hold Anime Song "Grand Prix" in July

posted on by Evan Miller
Competition winner to perform main theme for major anime project next year

Animax, one of Japan's largest cable networks for anime, has teamed up with Japanese cable company Jupiter Telecom to create an "All Japan Anime Song Grand Prix" singing competition.

The contest is open to both individuals and groups. Contestants must submit two photos and a CD-R with their performance of an anime song to Animax by June 15 to be eligible. This July, four preliminary rounds will take place in Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka and Sapporo respectively. Contestants will be judged by their ability in the categories of singing, performance, dance, costume, stage character, and more.

The winners of each regional competition will proceed to the final round, where their performances will be reviewed by a panel of celebrity judges, record company representatives and music producers. Celebrity judges include famous anime song performers Ichirou Mizuki, Mitsuko Horie and Yumi Matsuzawa.

The winner of the competition will perform the main theme for a major anime production next year and begin work on their professional debut. No details have been announced regarding which anime the song will be used for, or where the anime will be broadcast.
