The New York International Children's Film Festival is screening Studio Ghibli's The Cat Returns film on October 13 and 14 at 11:00 a.m. ET each day at New York City's IFC Center. Hiroyuki Morita's fantasy adventure film is loosely based on a manga from Aoi Hiiragi, whose previous work also inspired Yoshifumi Kondō's Whisper of the Heart; these two films are the only Ghibli theatrical features not directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, or Miyazaki's son Gorō. The festival held the New York premiere of The Cat Returns in 2005.
