posted on 2008-04-07 23:33 EDT
Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki announced musician Akiko Yano as the first person on the voice cast of the upcoming Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea film by Hayao Miyazaki (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Spirited Away). Suzuki made the announcement on his Tokyo FM radio program, Suzuki Toshio no Ghibli Asemamire. Yano will play one of the sisters of the title character Ponyo. She composed and performed the music in the My Neighbors the Yamadas film by Miyazaki's collaborator Isao Takahata, and she also voiced Fujiwara-sensei in it.
