Kadokawa Earnings Report: Lucky Star Manga Sells 1.8M

posted on by Egan Loo

Kadokawa Group Holdings announced its annual earnings report on April 28 and noted that one of its highlights is Kagami Yoshimizu's Lucky Star four-panel manga, which sold 1.8 million copies. The parent company of Kadokawa Shoten (Newtype, Monthly Shōnen Ace) said that sales increased 0.6% from the previous year to 150.789 billion yen (about US$1.4502 billion). However, operating profits dropped 30.6% to 5.133 billion yen (US$49.34 million), and income before taxes fells 23.4%. That left the company with a net result of 2.598 billion yen (US$24.97 million) in the red.

The company also reported that it notified Google's YouTube video-sharing service of 150,000 files of its works that were uploaded without authorization. It specifically cited The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star among the works that were uploaded without permission. The two companies recently agreed to work together on a Kadokawa Channel on YouTube's site.
