Asobi ni Iku yo! Light Novels Have Anime in the Works (Updated)

posted on by Egan Loo
Okina Kamino's science fiction light novels about boy protecting alien catgirl

A new wraparound jacket band on reprints of Okina Kamino's Asobi ni Iku yo! light novel series has announced that an anime adaptation is being developed. The story revolves around Kio Kakazu, an ordinary high school freshman living in Okinawa. A girl with cat ears appears before him during a memorial service for one of his family ancestors. The girl calls herself Eris and claims she is an alien. Before long, fanatical alien worshippers and a mysterious government agency are in hot pursuit of Eris, but Kio's childhood friend Manami — who wants to follow in her father's footsteps in the CIA — captures Eris. Kio finds himself having to protect Eris from everyone.

11 volumes have been published since Kamino started the light novel series in 2003. A manga adaptation has been running in Monthly Comic Alive magazine from Media Factory (the publisher of the light novels) since 2006, and five manga volumes have since been compiled. Houdeneizou (Wagaya no Oinari-sama.) draws the illustrations in the light novels, while the artist "888" draws the manga version.

The current issue of Monthly Comic Alive had promised that three important announcements would be made in the next issue on March 27.
