Kemono to Chat 4-Panel Manga Gets Anime Green-Lit (Update 2)

posted on by Egan Loo
Takayuki Mizushina's manga about girl who can understand the language of cats

The September issue of Takeshobo's Manga Club Original magazine will announce on Saturday that an original video anime (OVA) adaptation of Takayuki Mizushina's Kemono to Chat 4-panel manga has been green-lit. The story centers on Chacha Kenomoto, a high school freshman girl who can understand the language of cats and speak with them. (The girl's family name Kenomoto is a wordplay on the title, which literally means "Chatting with Creatures.")

Mizushina is not only a prolific manga creator, but an actor as well. He has been drawing Kemono to Chat in Manga Club Original since 2005, and Takeshobo has published four compiled book volumes so far that have sold over 300,000 copies.

Update: More background and story information added.

Update 2: According to Comic Natalie, Takeshobo will ship the OVA on a DVD on October 23. Yūji Umoto will direct the animators at the Usagiou studio. Maaya Sakamoto, Kana Ueda, Sayuri Yahagi will make up the voice cast. Mizushina will not only provide the original character designs, but he will also produce the theme song and write its lyrics. As extra supplemental materials, the DVD will feature "Jitsuroku Kemono to Shinaccho" cat videos that Mizushina shot himself and a manga booklet that Mizushina is drawing. The first 3,000 copies will include a CD with the theme song.
