Lost in Translation
Film director Mamoru Hosoda (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time/Toki o Kakeru Shōjo, Summer Wars) reported at Singapore's Anime Festival Asia (AFA) on Saturday that he had an offer to direct the Haruhi Suzumiya film series. While he responded to the offer by saying he would like to do it, he did not formally accept the offer and it never came to past.
Hosoda was answering a question about his next work during his AFA talk session when he revealed the Haruhi Suzumiya offer. He then revealed that he is already working on his next work. He expressed his desire to work with character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars) again, and he added that Satoko Okudera (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars) is writing his next work's script.
Hosoda appeared at the Animation Asia Conference 2009 in an "Insights Into Creating Animation Blockbusters" panel with ANN's Justin Sevakis on Friday. However, Hosoda's comments on Haruhi Suzumiya and his next work were made a day later at AFA, and not at the Animation Asia Conference.
