La Revue du vin de France, the most prestigious wine magazine in France, has awarded the "Special Award of the Year," its highest award, to Tadashi Agi and Shū Okimoto's Kami no Shizuku (Les Gouttes de Dieu/The Drops of God) wine manga on Thursday. The three creators ("Tadashi Agi" is a pen name for a sister/brother team) will receive the award in a ceremony in Paris on Tuesday. This is the first time that anyone from Japan has been honored with the 82-year-old magazine's highest award.

The manga, which has been running in Kodansha's Morning magazine since 2004, follows a young man's quest to identify the twelve wines described in his late father's will. The manga has been so popular in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan that sales of specific wines labels and years mentioned in the manga have spiked in Taiwan and other Asian countries. The manga sold 2 million copies in Korea in alone.

A live-action Japanese drama adaptation of the manga premiered in Japan in January of 2009. A separate live-action Korean drama was planned by Winter Sonata (Fuyu no Sonata) actor Bae Yong Joon, but it has been delayed due to Korean regulations on product placement for the story's real wine brands.
